DENTON, Texas (February 25, 2024) – It was a crazy three-game Lone Star Conference series at Dianne Baker Field, as Saturday, Lubbock Christian University was swept in a doubleheader 2-1 and 1-0 despite LCU's pitchers holding Texas Woman's to a combined four hits on the day. The Lady Chaparrals bounced back to claim a win in the series Sunday, as
Skylar Herrera had a pair of home runs to lead LCU to a 6-3 victory.
GAME 1 | Texas Woman's 2, Lubbock Christian 1
Maxine Valdez was originally credited with a no-hitter, but it came in a losing cause, as LCU fell 2-1 to the Pioneers. TWU originally credited Valdez with a no-hitter, but nearly a week following game, they resubmitted statistics reflecting a one-hitter for Valdez and her seventh career no-hit bid was changed to a one-hitter.
Senior
Ally Oyanguren led the way offensively for the Lady Chaparrals, going 1-for-2 in the ballgame with a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Chaparrals got on the scoreboard first, starting in the fourth inning. Lubbock Christian got an RBI single from Oyanguren, scoring
Tiarra Delrosario from second base. The Chaparrals were unable to hold the lead, as Texas Woman's scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning for a walk-off win. An error and fielder's choice (no out recorded) placed two runners on base. TWU's first run was result of a wild pitch, and the game winning run was result of a sacrifice fly hit by Callie Bailey for the Pioneers.

GAME 2 | Texas Woman's 1, Lubbock Christian 0
The Lubbock Christian Chaparrals were not able to notch a run against Texas Woman's pitcher Jayce Hall on Saturday despite collecting eight hits and were shut out 1-0 by the Pioneers.
Teoni Lamb (2-1) got the ball to start for Lubbock Christian and suffered the hard-fought loss. The right-hander went 6.0 innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing one walk and striking out seven.
Baylea Myers led the way offensively for the Chaparrals, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame. Sophomore
Amanda Valdiviezo provided a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lubbock Christian managed two chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position. LCU's best scoring chance came in the fifth inning, as Myers, Valdiviezo and Gibbs (bunt) each singled to load the bases to leadoff the frame. With the bases loaded and nobody out, back-to-back 1-2 put-outs at home plate prevented any Chaps from crossing home plate. TWU's lone run came in the third, as LeBlanc doubled and then scored on a Vivicia Hernandez RBI-single.

Senior
Skylar Herrera put together an outstanding performance at the plate Sunday, hitting two homers to help lead the Lady Chaparrals past the Pioneers 6-3.
Freshman
Reese Farrar (1-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Lubbock Christian (9-7, 5-4). The right-hander went two shutout innings, giving up three hits. Junior
Teoni Lamb also pitched well, going two shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking two and striking out one, as she recorded her first save (1).
Herrera went 2-for-4 at the plate, supplementing her two home runs with four RBI.
Tiarra Delrosario added to Herrera's awesome power-hitting performance by going 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Sophomore
Sydnee Bowlin also helped out for the Chaparrals, going 3-for-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Chaparrals got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Herrera put Lubbock Christian on the board with a one-out solo home run off junior Allison Gonzalez.
After the Pioneers rallied to tie the ballgame at 1-1 off Lauryn Davies triple, the Chaps came back to retake the lead in the third inning. LCU put up two runs in the frame, punctuated with an RBI triple off the bat of Delrosario, which brought the score to 3-1 in favor of the Lady Chaps.
A two-run third inning allowed Texas Woman's to tie the game at 3-3 before Lubbock Christian reclaimed a 4-3 advantage in the fourth inning with a fielder's choice RBI by Herrera. In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Pioneers, with two outs, attempted to send a runner home to tie the game on an error, but LCU first baseman
Ally Oyanguren corralled the loose ball and fired a bullseye to catcher Bauley Hughes, who applied the tag for the third out.
Lubbock Christian held the Pioneers scoreless and was able to get out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the sixth inning before building on their lead in the seventh inning. Herrera sent a blast to left field for a two-run homer, bringing the score to 6-3 in favor of Lubbock Christian. The score remained 6-3 for the rest of the game, as the Chaparrals held on for the win and Lamb, LCU's fourth pitcher, claimed the save.
GAME NOTES
» The Chaparrals got two home runs off the bat of Herrera, who has three home runs on the season and 36 in her LCU career. The multi-homer game for Herrera was the fourth of her career.
» Bowlin picked up three base knocks in the game for Lubbock Christian. The three hits matched a career high and it was her second three-hit game of her career.
» Herrera drove in four runs for Lubbock Christian, which is her season high and matched her career high.
