SAN ANGELO, Texas - The Lubbock Christian University Men's Basketball team cruised to a 75-50 win over Angelo State on the road Thursday night. The win snapped the Rams 22 game home win streak that dated back to Feb. 12, 2022 (65-54 loss to Texas A&M International).
The Chaps (17-6, 12-3) had four players score in double figures, led by Tiras Morton, who had 20 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Najeeb Muhammad added 17 points, six rebounds and five assists and Kurt Wegscheider helped out with 10 points and two blocks off the bench.
The LCU offense was very productive from deep, making eight threes on 23 attempts. Ty Caswell was the most prolific shooter for the Chaps, draining three treys in the contest.
LCU's defense held Angelo State to only 15.4 percent shooting from beyond the arc and 34.8 percent from the field. The Rams 50 points is their lowest point total of the season.
How It Happened
After falling behind 6-2, LCU went on a 16-0 run with 15:56 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Kendall Dow, to take an 18-6 lead. The Chaps then added seven points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 39-20 advantage. LCU got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 11 of its 39 total points.
LCU kept its lead intact before going on a 10-0 run to grow the lead to 75-48 with 1:43 to go in the contest. The Chaps took care of business in the paint, recording 18 of its 36 points in the lane.
