LUBBOCK, Texas (March 12, 2024) –
Maxine Valdez and
Teoni Lamb each had complete game shutouts, while combining for 18 strikeouts, for Lubbock Christian University, who also received a multi-home run game from
Hope Banales, as the Lady Chaps rolled to a pair of 8-0 run-rule wins Tuesday in a doubleheader sweep over Western New Mexico in a Lone Star Conference series at Maner Park.
GAME 1 | Lubbock Christian 8, Western New Mexico 0
Maxine Valdez was dealing on Tuesday, throwing a three-hit shutout to lead the Lady Chaparrals past the Mustangs 8-0.
Valdez (4-5) went the distance for Lubbock Christian, giving up three hits (no walks) and striking out 11 Mustangs.
In the batter's box, the Lady Chaps were paced by
Kamryn Gibbs, who went 2-for-3 in the game with a home run and two RBI.
Ally Oyanguren compiled a standout effort as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Senior
Tiarra Delrosario also chipped in for Lubbock Christian, putting together three hits in three trips to the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lady Chaps opened the game with a four-run inning, highlighted with a two-out two-run home run from Gibbs. Oyanguren helped LCU add to the lead with a RBI-double in the third inning. She scored on a sacrifice bunt by
Riley Flores for a 6-0 LCU lead.
Skylar Herrera singled in a run to make it 7-0 in the fourth inning, and the game came to an end in the fifth inning with Gibbs scoring on a wild pitch.

» Valdez tossed a three-hit shutout for the Chaparrals. She struck out a season-high 11 batters in 5.0 innings for her first complete game shutout of the season and 11
th of her LCU career (25
th career complete game).
» Delrosario picked up three base hits in the game for Lubbock Christian. She leads LCU with 10 multi-hit games on the season.
» Four Chaparrals had multiple hits in the ballgame. Along with Delrosario's three hits, LCU received a 2-for-2 performance from

Teoni Lamb was also dealing on Tuesday, throwing a three-hit shutout to lead LCU past the WNMU 8-0.
Lamb (5-2) went the distance for Lubbock Christian (13-11, 12-8), giving up three hits, walking two and striking out seven.
At the plate, the Lady Chaps were led by
Hope Banales, who went 2-for-3 on the day with two home runs and three RBI.
Tiarra Delrosario put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Baylea Myers also chipped in for Lubbock Christian, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
LCU knocked Mustangs starting pitcher Emily Maddux out of the game two outs into the bottom of the first inning, as LCU produced a six-run innings and all tacked on Maddux. After Delrosario hit a RBI-double, she scored on a
Skylar Herrera single. Banales followed with a two-run homerun for a 4-0 lead. Flores and
Hanna Wells each added an RBI to complete the scoring in the opening inning.
LCU was able to walk-it-off on the run-rule in the fifth inning, which opened with a
Hope Banales solo home run for her second home run of the game. With the bases loaded,
Baylea Myers hit a fly ball to the wall in centerfield for the walk-off RBI.

» Lamb tossed a three-hit shutout for the Lady Chaparrals. It was her seventh complete game of the season and her third complete game shutout of the season.
» The Chaparrals got two home runs off the bat of Banales. She has four on the season, 13 in her career, and the pair of home runs marked her first multi-homer game as a member of the Lady Chaps. Banales has four multi-RBI games this season.
» LCU improved to 12-1 this season when they hit at least one home run in a game.
» The Chaparrals out-hit the Mustangs at an 8-3 clip.
» Lubbock Christian went 5-for-9 (.556) with runners in scoring position.
