LCU Sweeps Double Header Against Oklahoma Christian Saturday

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Lubbock Christian University baseball team grabbed two wins over Oklahoma Christian Saturday. 
GAME 1 | Lubbock Christian 22, Oklahoma Christian 2
Junior Brevin McCool put together a brilliant outing at the plate Saturday, hitting for the cycle to help power LCU over the Oklahoma Christian  22-2.

Sophomore Chris Rhoades (3-2) started on the mound and picked up the win for Lubbock Christian (11-7). The right-hander went six innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on four hits, allowing two walks and striking out five. Junior Ch. Brown also made an impact on the mound for the Chaparrals, throwing one scoreless inning while allowing no hits, with no walks and one strikeout.

McCool completed his cycle in four at-bats, driving in six runs along the way. Senior Jarred Gibson supplemented McCool's historic day by going 3-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, a walk and four RBI. Senior Ryan Ball also chipped in for the Chaparrals, going 3-for-5 for Lubbock Christian with two doubles, a home run, a walk and four RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Chaparrals got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Lubbock Christian's offense started clicking and put up six runs, including a one-run double off the bat of Ball.

The Chaparrals then held the Eagles scoreless before expanding their lead in the third inning. Lubbock Christian scored twice on Ball's two-run homer, which brought the score to 8-0 in favor of the Chaparrals.

Lubbock Christian kept Oklahoma Christian scoreless before expanding their lead to 11-0 the following inning. The Chaparrals scored three times, including once on McCool's RBI double.

Lubbock Christian kept the Eagles scoreless before their offense got back in action the next inning. The Chaparrals left the yard two times in the inning on the way to scoring four runs, bringing the score to 15-0 in favor of Lubbock Christian.

The Chaparrals held Oklahoma Christian scoreless before building on their lead to 22-0 the following inning. The Lubbock Christian offense piled up seven runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Gibson and a two-run triple from McCool. Oklahoma Christian put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Chaparrals still coasted to the 22-2 win.

GAME 2 | Lubbock Christian 10, Oklahoma Christian 4
The Lubbock Christian Chaparrals needed eight innings to get the job done, but secured the 10-4 extra-innings victory over the Oklahoma Christian Eagles Saturday.

Ryan Markwardt (3-1) started on the mound and picked up the win for Lubbock Christian (12-7, 12-7). The left-hander went four innings, giving up four runs, two earned, on two hits, allowing four walks and striking out four. Chris Shull also made an impact on the mound for the Chaparrals, throwing three shutout innings while allowing one hit, with two walks and three strikeouts.

In the batter's box, the Chaparrals were paced by Jarred Gibson, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double and three RBI. Hayden Blair put together a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with a triple. Jacob Gutierrez also chipped in for Lubbock Christian, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Chaparrals got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. S. Bowen came across to score the lone run of the inning for Lubbock Christian and get them on the board.

The Eagles then tied the ballgame at one before the Chaparrals came back to reclaim their advantage in the second inning. Lubbock Christian picked up a pair of runs in the frame, which brought the Chaparrals lead to 3-1.

Lubbock Christian's lead had disappeared by the time the fifth inning arrived and turned into a 4-3 Oklahoma Christian advantage, when the Chaparrals re-gained control at 6-4. The Chaparrals recorded three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-RBI double from R. Ball.

Lubbock Christian held the Eagles scoreless before their offense got back in action the next inning. The Chaparrals scored four runs in the inning, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Gibson, bringing the Lubbock Christian advantage to 10-4. The score remained 10-4 for the rest of the game, as the Chaparrals coasted to the win.
