DALLAS, Texas (March 2, 2024) – For a fourth consecutive time when facing a Division II opponent, Lubbock Christian University is able to rally and claim a 4-3 win. This time Southeastern Oklahoma State was the victim, as the neutral site win at Bent Tree Country Club Tennis Center moved LCU to 11-0 on the season.
LCU opened with momentum after taking the doubles point. LCU's doubles teams of
Anastasiia Opolska /
Oshini Herath (No.1-doubles) and
Axelle Jacquemin /
Anastasiia Khrustaleva (No.2-doubles) claimed wins for the 1-0 lead (No.3-doubles match went unfinished).
The Lady Chaps jumped out to a 2-0 lead after Jacquemin was the first to wrap up, winning No.3-singles. SEOSU bounced back to tie the dual twice, as they first tied the dual at 2-2 with a pair of singles wins. No.42
Andrea De Bernardo dropped the opening set in No.1-singles, but rallied to win the second and third set (both 6-4 results) to put LCU back on top 3-2. SEOSU won the No.4-singles match to tie the dual at 3-3, which put all eyes on No.6 singles. Opolska won the first two sets with 6-4 results to clinch the match and the dual for LCU.
The result (4-3) marked the fourth consecutive 4-3 win by the Lady Chaps in duals against Division II opponents. De Bernardo has had the three-set victories and Opolska has won the clinching match in consecutive dual wins. They each co-lead LCU with 14 singles wins (8-1 in duals) and Opolska has won three consecutive singles matches.
The win kept LCU perfect (11-0) and SEOSU drops to 5-3 on the season. LCU heads to Florida next week for Spring Break matches, which gets underway Mar. 10 in Orlando, Fla. against Rockhurst.
