Eight is Enough... Pair of 8-0 Shutouts To Sweep Doubleheader

Skylar Herrera Moved Into Sole Possession of Third Place in Program Homers, As She Hits Her 44th Career Home Run

 
LUBBOCK, Texas (April 18, 2024) – Maxine Valdez and Teoni Lamb each had a complete game shutout, with Lamb striking out a season-high 10 batters in 6.0 innings of work, and Lubbock Christian University swept Texas Permian Basin in Thursday's doubleheader 8-0 (in five innings) and 8-0 (in six innings) to open their Lone Star Conference series at Maner Park.
 
GAME 1 | Lubbock Christian 8, Texas-Permian Basin 0
Baylea Myers was a double shy of a cycle and Maxine Valdez hurled a five-hit shutout to lead the LCU over the Falcons 8-0 in the opener.
 
Valdez (10-5) went the distance for Lubbock Christian giving up five hits and striking out six.
 
Myers was LCU's only batter with multiple hits and went 3-for-3 with a triple and home run in the mix.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
LCU's biggest offensive output occurred in the first inning, opening the game with a 3-0 lead. Myers highlighted the frame with a two-run single. The Lady Chaps extended the lead in the second inning to 5-0 with a pair of runs. Riley Flores extended the lead to 6-0 in the third inning with a RBI-single. The Lady Chaps activated the run-rule in the fifth inning, as Myers hit a solo home run, and with two outs, Kamryn Gibbs celebrated her birthday with a walk-off single scoring Amanda Valdiviezo.
 
GAME NOTES
» Valdez tossed a five-hit shutout for LCU. The shutout was her fourth complete-game shutout this season and the 14th of her career. It was her 29th complete game of her career and ninth of the season.

» Myers had three base hits in the game for Lubbock Christian, as she was 3-for-3 at the plate. It marked the second consecutive game in which she went 3-for-3 at the plate. Her home run was her sixth home run of the season.

» Valdez struck out six Falcons hitters, placing her with 497 in her LCU career.

» Valdez had no-hit UTPB in her previous two career starts against the Falcons. She ended up going 12.1 consecutive no-hit innings against UTPB before allowing her first hit in her career in the all-time series.

» Every Lubbock Christian starter reached base safely in the win.

» Lubbock Christian went 4-for-9 (.444) with runners in scoring position, while UTPB went 0-for-4.

» The Lady Chaps drew seven walks from Texas-Permian Basin pitching. Hanna Wells was walked three times.

» Texas-Permian Basin was led offensively by freshman Kylie Parker, who went 1-for-1 with a double.

» UTPB's Destini Trahan suffered the loss, throwing 4.2 innings and allowing seven earned runs (Trahan moves to 1-16)

Teoni Lamb pitched a two-hit complete game shutout to lead the Lady Chaparrals over the Falcons 8-0 in the second game.
 
Lamb (9-4) went the distance for Lubbock Christian (24-18, 23-15), giving up two hits, walking none and striking out a season-high 10 batters.
 
At the plate, the Chaparrals were led by Skylar Herrera, who went 3-for-4 on the day with a home run and three RBI. Tiarra Delrosario put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a triple, a walk and an RBI. Hope Banales also chipped in for Lubbock Christian, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding two doubles, a walk and an RBI.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
 
LCU started the scoring early, posting a pair of runs in the first two innings for a 4-0 lead. The first runs were off a two-run home run by Herrera in the first inning. Cat Prisock made it 4-0 in the second inning with a two-run single.
 
The Lady Chaps made it 7-0 in the fourth inning, as they posted a trio of runs on the board. Gibbs opened the scoring in the frame with a sacrifice fly RBI. Tiarra Delrosario followed with a RBI-triple before Herrera closed the scoring in the inning with a a RBI-single. LCU walked it off in the sixth inning, as Hope Banales hit a double scoring Herrera for the 8-0 lead.
 
GAME NOTES
» Lamb tossed a two-hit shutout for LCU. It was her team-leading fifth shutout of the season and 10th complete game. She has back-to-back complete game shutouts spanning 13.0 innings.

» LCU got three-hit games from both Herrera and sophomore Riley Flores. Flores' 3-for-3 performance at the plate matched a season high and career high in hits (fourth time in her career). Flores has hits in three consecutive games, which actively leads LCU.

» Lamb struck out a season-high 10 Falcons hitters.

» LCU's power output was led by Banales, who picked up two extra base hits in the ballgame. It marked her second game this season in which she had multiple doubles produced.

» LCU out-hit the Falcons at a 13-2 clip.

» Lubbock Christian went 4-for-9 (.444) with runners in scoring position. All four hits were by different individuals.

» Lamb faced 22 Texas-Permian Basin hitters in the game, allowing three ground balls and six fly balls while striking out 10.

» Herrera led the Chaparrals at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Her home run, her 11th of the season, was her 44th of her LCU career and moved her into sole possession of third place in program history in home runs.
 
HISTORICAL NOTE
LCU improved to 35-0 all-time overall and 21-0 all-time at home against UTPB. LCU has shutout the Falcons in four of their last five matches and eight of their last 10 meetings.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
LCU remains home Friday for the final game in their series against Texas Permian Basin. First pitch is at 2 p.m., but fans are encouraged to arrive at 1:30 p.m. in preparation for Senior Day ceremonies prior to the game.
