Chaps Unable To March Past Quarterfinals at LSC Championships

Mariia Koroleva Wins Her Team-Leading 26th Singles Match of the Season

ARLINGTON, Texas (April 25, 2024) – In a Lone Star Conference Championships Quarterfinals matchup between a pair of nationally ranked programs, it was No.20 Cameron (No.3-seed) advancing past No.33 Lubbock Christian University (No.6-seed) 4-1 Thursday at Arlington Tennis Center.

The Lady Chaps went with some fresh looks in doubles play, as, in No.1-doubles, Axelle Jacquemin and Michelle Trochez partnered together for the first time this season and Andrea De Bernardo teamed with Anastasiia Khrustaleva (No.2-doubles) for the third time this season. The new combinations did not lead to any victories in doubles play, as Cameron won both sets, including the No.1-doubles match by No.50 Vasilisa Polunova / Anastasia Uspenskaia. The results gave Cameron a 1-0 lead heading into

LCU's Mariia Koroleva claimed LCU's only point of the dual, and her No.6-singles win was the first completed match to tie the dual at 1-1. It was the Aggies the rest of the way, as No.2-singles, No.5-singles and No.4-singles went in favor of CU for a 4-1 clinch, which ended the dual. The remaining two ongoing matches went unfinished. Of matches completed, No.2-singles featured a pair of nationally ranked opponents squaring off, as No.68 Jenna Goessel defeated LCU's No.30 De Bernardo in two sets.

Koroleva claimed her team-leading 26th singles win of the season (26-3 overall and 21-1 in duals) and has won 14 consecutive singles matches. She is 12-0 in No.6-singles.

The loss ends LCU's stay at the LSC Championships. They fall to 1-2 all-time in LSC Championships dual play. LCU, now 0-3 all-time against Cameron, moves to 20-7 overall on the season.
