Lady Chaps Out-Shoot Comets in Loss

Late Goal Ends LCU Win Streak

LUBBOCK, Texas (October 11, 2025) — UT Dallas edged past Lubbock Christian University 1-0 on Saturday at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex.

Despite the Chaparrals' 15 shots, the Comets secured the win with a second-half goal. Chaparrals' goalkeeper Emma Wright recorded one save, while UT Dallas's defense held strong, making eight saves to maintain the shutout.

Lubbock Christian now holds a record of 6-4-2 overall and 4-2-2 in conference play. UT Dallas stands at 8-2-1 overall with a 5-2-0 mark in conference play.

The first half began with the Lady Chaps asserting offensive pressure early. Emma Best tested the UT Dallas goalkeeper within the opening minutes, but her effort was denied. LCU continued to press, with multiple attempts from Sydney Smith, Claire Jacobson, and Journey Curs throughout the half.

Despite numerous opportunities, including several corner kicks, the UT Dallas goalkeeper managed to keep the home team at bay with critical saves. LCU's defense remained solid, limiting the visitors' chances. The half concluded scoreless, with the Lady Chaps holding the momentum through consistent offensive efforts.

Flipping the field in the second half, LCU found themselves attacking into a stiff 20 mph wind, fighting hard defensively to keep the game scoreless.

Despite this effort, Jules Chavez managed to break through, scoring in the 83rd minute to put the visiting team ahead. The Lady Chaps continued to press forward, with Curs and Ella Spiller both testing the UT Dallas goalkeeper but were unable to convert opportunities into goals.

Emma Wright played the full 90 minutes as goalkeeper, recording one save in the match. Curs led the team with three shots, two of which were on goal. Best also contributed with two shots, both being on target. Anna Brandt managed two shots, including one on goal.

GAME NOTES:
- UTD's goal in the 83rd minute broke a shutout streak by the Chaps' defense of 383 minutes and 24 seconds, dating back to the Sept. 27 tie against UT Tyler
- Lubbock Christian suffered the loss despite out-shooting the Comets 15-6, marking their first loss this season when they had more shots (previously 4-0-1)
- The Lady Chaps are now in a tie for fifth in the Lone Star Conference with 14 points. UT Tyler also has 14 points. If the season ended today, the Chaps would be in a tie for fourth, as UT Dallas is not eligible for postseason play this season
- The Chaps committed just four fouls in the game, which is tied for their fewest in a single game this season
- Spiller was held without a point for the first time since the Chaps' Sept. 24 loss at Midwestern State

NEXT UP:
Lubbock Christian will get a break in the midweek before a tough test next Saturday at Dallas Baptist, who is ranked in the top 10 nationally and has not lost or even tied yet this season.
