Chaps Draw With Patriots

Militao, Horta Score in Road Battle

TYLER, Texas (October 11, 2025) — Lubbock Christian University and UT Tyler played to a 2-2 draw on Saturday at the Citizens First Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex. 

Both teams scored once in each half, with the Chaparrals' goals coming from a balanced attack. The match was marked by a tight defensive effort, as the Chaparrals' goalkeeper made four saves against 13 shots, while UT Tyler's defense allowed nine shots but managed to keep the game level.

The Chaparrals stand at 3-5-3 overall with a 2-1-2 record in conference play. UT Tyler has a 3-6-2 overall record and was 1-3-1 in conference competition.

The home team struck first with a goal by Niko Vasileiou in the 7th minute, putting them ahead early. 

The Chaparrals responded with persistence as Andrea Monticelli's saved attempt was followed up by Augusto Militao, who found the back of the net in the 23rd minute to level the score at 1-1.

Connor Pettigrew was instrumental in maintaining the draw with multiple saves, including a crucial stop against Hugo Marques in the 26th minute. As the half concluded, the Chaparrals' defense held firm, keeping the score tied at 1-1 heading into the break.

The second half started with a defensive stand by Lubbock Christian as UT Tyler pushed forward. Pettigrew made a crucial save in the 52nd minute, keeping the score level. The Chaparrals then built momentum with multiple shots on goal, including a blocked attempt by Manu Nunez in the 65th minute.

LCU capitalized on their pressure with Francisco Horta finding the back of the net in the 83rd minute, assisted by Monticelli, to take a 2-1 lead. However, UT Tyler responded quickly, leveling the score with a goal from Luan Rangel with less than three minutes to go.

Horta contributed a goal with his only shot, finding the back of the net for Lubbock Christian. Militao also scored, converting on one of his two attempts. Goalkeeper Pettigrew made four saves over 90 minutes, facing 13 shots. Monticelli provided an assist, adding to his two shots on goal during the match.

GAME NOTES:
- Militao's goal was his first this season, making him the seventh different Chaparrals player to score this year
- Pettigrew made four saves in the draw, bringing his save percentage for the season to .780
- The Chaps now have eight points in the Lone Star Conference standings, putting them in sole possession of second place, one point behind Midwestern State
- The Chaparrals matched their season-low in fouls in the game with just three. They also had only three fouls against Adams State on Sept. 11
- UT Tyler out-shot the Lady Chaps 13-9 in the game, making the Chaparrals 0-3-1 this season when opponents tally more shots than them
