TYLER, Texas (October 1, 2025) – Lubbock Christian University women's tennis turned in a strong showing at the ITA South Central Regional, highlighted by a semifinal singles run from sophomore
AnaMaria Zoric and a dominant consolation doubles title from
Andrea De Bernardo and
Axelle Jacquemin. While the Lady Chaps did not secure automatic ITA Cup bids, several statement wins kept them firmly in the regional spotlight.
Zoric produced LCU's deepest advance in the top singles draw, marching into the semifinals. Along the way she delivered one of the tournament's biggest upsets, knocking off No.4 seed Natalia Gorzny of UT Tyler in straight sets before toppling Midwestern State's Emelia Gyorgy in the quarters. Her run ended in the semis against MSU's Selin Sepken, but Zoric finished with four victories, including two against seeded opponents.
Senior leadership also shined, as
Axelle Jacquemin upset No.7 seed Jenna Goessel (Cameron) in her opener, while fellow senior
Oshini Herath advanced to the round of 16 with a pair of convincing wins, including a straight-set upset of No.15 seed Maya Donkor (Texas A&M–Kingsville). De Bernardo reached the third round, dropping only five total games across her first two matches before falling to St. Mary's No.9 seed Alessia Ka Terlizzi. Freshman
Kristel Jativa bounced back from an opening loss to reel off three straight wins in consolation before falling to St. Mary's No.2 seed Selina Wu in the semifinals.
LCU also saw depth across the lineup, with sophomores
Gabriela Franco and
Alexa Irzabal each collecting multiple singles wins in their respective flights, while freshman
Aitanna Moreno Villa and senior
Hannah Quick gained experience in their regional competitions.
In doubles, De Bernardo and Jacquemin rebounded from a narrow first-round setback to dominate the consolation bracket, winning four straight matches capped by an 8–3 victory over Texas A&M–Kingsville's Ann Andersson Gomez / Andrea Landaeta. Herath and Zoric advanced to the second round after an 8–1 rout of an Angelo State pair, while Jativa and freshman Sofia Valero Trevino earned two doubles wins before bowing out in the quarterfinals.
The Lady Chaps' showing at the ITA South Central Regional adds to the program's growing regional footprint, following last year's historic ITA Cup debut by De Bernardo and Jacquemin. At-large selections for this year's ITA Cup are still to be determined.
