Triple or Nothing: LCU's Three-Point Barrage Beats FLC

Chaps Tie Program Record with 20 Made Threes

DURANGO, Colo. (November 22, 2025) — Lubbock Christian University used an incredible second half shooting effort to defeat Fort Lewis College 94-76 at Whalen Gymnasium on Saturday night.

The Chaparrals matched a program record with 20 three-pointers, 11 of which came in the second half. They also recorded 27 assists, facilitating efficient ball movement throughout the game. The Skyhawks managed to score 42 points in the paint but were unable to close the gap.

Lubbock Christian University holds a 6-0 overall record. FLC is now 2-2 for the season.

The Chaps opened the half with a strong offensive performance, highlighted by Amondo Miller Jr.'s back-to-back 3-pointers within the first two minutes, setting an early lead. Playing against his former team, Miller Jr. had a big start to the game, scoring 20 first half points.

The team maintained momentum with Kendall Dow and Antonio Pusateri contributing from beyond the arc and inside the paint, respectively, to keep Fort Lewis at bay. Despite the Skyhawks closing the gap, Lucas Mercandino's three-pointer in the final seconds extended the Chaps' lead. The half ended with the Chaparrals ahead, 45-38.

Fort Lewis cut into that gap with their frenzied offense and defensive press, pulling within one with a dunk at the 15:13 mark. The Chaps were able to cling to their lead for a couple of more minutes, until a 6-0 run from the Skyhawks gave theme a lead.

The Chaps responded with a 5-0 burst of their own, including a three-pointer by Alex Anamekwe, to pull back in front. FLC briefly tied the game at 63-all, but a jumper from Kendall Dow and a three-pointer from Miller Jr. put the Chaps ahead for good, as they pulled away in the final 10 minutes.

Three-point shooting was the key for LCU in the win, especially in the second half. They hit 11 of their 14 three-point shots in the final 20 minutes, shooting a scorching 78.6 percent from beyond the arc. They made only eight two-point field goals in the half pulling away for the 18-point win.

Miller posted 29 points and secured a double-double with 10 rebounds while also contributing two steals and two blocks. Leo Nordberg scored nine points, converting three 3-pointers, and dished out five assists. Dow added 15 points, nine of which came from beyond the arc, and recorded six assists alongside three steals. Mercandino tallied 12 points, hitting two 3-pointers and successfully making all four free-throw attempts, while also leading the team with six assists.

GAME NOTES:
- The three previous times the Chaparrals have hit 20 three-pointers in a game were 1/4/98 against Oklahoma Christian, 12/8/00 against National Christian, and most recently, 2/24/22 against Western New Mexico.
- LCU's 27 assists were also their most since the 2/4/22 game against Western New Mexico.
- Lubbock Christian ended up shooting 50.8 percent from the field, marking the fourth time in six games they have made more than half their shots in a game.
- The Chaparrals' win against FLC is their first in the Lady Chaps' Division II era.
- Miller has scored at least 20 points in four of the Chaparrals' six games so far this season, averaging 24.7 points per game. It was his second-straight double-double.
