Lady Chaps Season Ends in LSC Tournament

SEU Advances in Double Overtime Thriller

LUBBOCK, Texas (November 7, 2025) — It took 110 minutes and then some, but St. Edward's was the team to advance against Lubbock Christian, 5-4 on PKs, in the opening round of the Lone Star Conference Tournament on Friday at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex.

St. Edward's took the lead in the first half, but the Lady Chaps equalized with a goal in the second half. Both teams had opportunities, with LCU recording 13 shots, four on goal, and St. Edward's taking 17 shots, also placing four on target. The match remained tied through regulation and two overtime periods, forcing the PK shootout where SEU converted all five of their attempts.

Lubbock Christian ends the season with an 8-7-3 overall record with a 6-5-2 mark in conference play. St. Edward's stands at 7-9-3 overall, advancing to face Midwestern State in the quarterfinal matchup.

The first half began with Lubbock Christian's Emma Wright in goal, quickly thwarting an early attempt by St. Edward's Andrea Santana. Despite a promising corner kick in the third minute, the Lady Chaps struggled to convert opportunities into goals, with Ella Spiller's shot missing the target and Emma Best's free kick attempt saved by St. Edward's goalkeeper Daria Schlumbohm. Claire Jacobson also contributed with a shot during the half, but it didn't find the net.

St. Edward's gained momentum toward the end of the half, with Annie Rocha scoring in the 42nd minute to send them into the half up 1-0.

In the second half, Lubbock Christian found a crucial equalizer early when Kali Guy scored in the 66th minute, leveling the match at 1-1. Despite several fouls and a yellow card issued to Journey Curs, the Lady Chaps maintained pressure with attempts from Maya Quinones and Jacobson, who hit the woodwork and narrowly missed the target on multiple occasions. The half concluded with the score tied at 1-1.

The overtime period commenced with a critical save by Wright at 91:40, denying a shot by St. Edward's Rocha and maintaining the stalemate. The Lady Chaps generated an opportunity from a corner kick at 97:14, leading to a shot by Guy that went out left. Despite multiple attempts by St. Edward's, which included a shot by Riley Sisson hitting the top woodwork, the period ended scoreless.

In the second overtime, the Lady Chaps maintained pressure with several attempts on goal, notably a corner kick that led to a shot by Manderigh Santos at 102:54, which was saved by SEU's Schlumbohm. Best also shot wide, while Spiller's attempt at 105:28 was again halted by Schlumbohm. St. Edward's Rocha responded with shots, but her efforts were off target. The period concluded scoreless, and the match ended in a draw, with both teams unable to break the deadlock.

In the shootout, Lubbock Christian's Bonnie Miller, Guy, Sydney Smith, and Duschka Diaz each successfully converted their attempts, showcasing their precision under pressure. Despite a missed opportunity by Spiller, the Lady Chaps remained competitive throughout the session. St. Edward's matched each successful attempt by LCU, with Sisson, Marie Hannedouche, Rainey Simmons, Elena Ramos Banet, and Rocha finding the net to send the Hilltoppers to the next round.
