York Collects Four Hits, McCool Homers Again

LUBBOCK, Texas (February 14, 2025) - Senior shortstop Kade York collected four hits as Lubbock Christian came back from down 7-1 to beat Oklahoma Christian 13-12 on Friday at Hays Field.

Junior Kyler Carpenter (1-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Lubbock Christian (5-4, 5-4). The right-hander went two shutout innings without giving up a hit, no walks and striking out one. It was the first win of his LCU career. Logan Moore closed out the game on the mound and also had a first, recording a save.

In addition to his four hits, York had a double and three RBI to lead the Chaparrals. Third basemen Brevin McCool kept up his hot start to the season, going 3-for-5 with a double and a home run. Nicklaus Baumbach also chipped in for Lubbock Christian, adding two hits in five trips to the plate while also driving in three runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Chaparrals were trailing 5-0 in the fourth inning when they first put a run on the board. Outfielder Shea Bowen drew a walk and came across on a groundout to get the Chaps on the board.

The Chaparrals deficit expanded to 7-1 in the top of the fifth before the combeback began. York led off the bottom of the frame with a hard single to right for his first of two hits in the inning, as LCU exploded for six runs, chasing Oklahoma Christian starting pitcher Chris Jones from the game, along with the reliever who followed him. The second time York came up to bat in the inning, he singled again, driving in the two tying runs.

Carpenter pitched a scoreless sixth to hold the 7-7 tie before it turned into a 12-7 Lubbock Christian lead in the sixth. McCool doubled with one out and Baumbach drove him in to give the Chaps the lead. Kyle Lewis drove in a run, York had another RBI and two runs came across on an Eagle error.

LCU's final run came in the seventh, as McCool homered to right center, giving him his eighth of the season and bringing the Lubbock Christian advantage to 13-7.

OC scored three times in the eighth to pull closer and bring Liam Scott out of the bullpen. Scott then pitched the ninth, giving up two runs and putting a pair of runners on base before striking out Hank Heiselbetz to end the game.
