LUBBOCK, Texas (February 15, 2025) - Najeeb Muhammad scored a career-high 30 points to help lead the Lubbock Christian men's basketball team past UT Permian Basin 83-60 on Saturday at the Rip Griffin Center.
The Chaparrals are now 20-6 on the season and 15-3 in Lone Star Conference play. It is their second-straight 20-win season and their fifth under head coach Todd Duncan.
Four players scored in double-figures, led by Muhammad, who was 9-for-10 from the field, including 5-of-6 from behind the arc. The five made three-pointers are also a career-high. Amondo Miller Jr. added 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists, Kendall Dow helped out with 11 points from the bench and Ethan Duncan had 10.
The Lubbock Christian defense held UT Permian Basin shooters to only 35.3 percent from the field, including keeping the Falcons without a field goal for the final 4:18 of the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After playing to a 10-10 tie, Lubbock Christian went on a 7-0 run with 14:31 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Dow, to take a 17-10 lead. The Chaparrals pushed the lead to double-digits for the first time with 5:26 left in the half on a Muhammad three-pointer.
An 8-2 run by the Falcons with just over a minute before the break kept them in it though, and LCU led by only seven at halftime.
Following intermission, Lubbock Christian kept widening that lead, expanding it to 45-37 before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Sean Murphy's layup, to grow the lead to 53-37 with 12:52 to go in the contest.
The Chaps stretched the lead all the way out to 27 with 5:49 left on a pair of Duncan free throws and cruised to their eighth straight win in the final minutes.

» Najeeb Muhammad led the Chaparrals with a career-high 30 points. It broke his previous career-high of 26, which was set just a few weeks ago against Cameron.
