TYLER, Texas (February 26, 2025) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals posted a 2-1 record over the weekend in a trio of neutral-site matches at Tyler Junior College, securing wins over Delta State (6-1) and Harding (4-1), while falling in a tightly contested battle against No. 19 Mississippi College (4-3).
LCU (6-2) opened the weekend with a commanding 6-1 victory over Delta State on Saturday at the TJC Brookshire Community Tennis Center. The Lady Chaps clinched the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3, highlighted by a 6-3 triumph from
Axelle Jacquemin and
Andrea De Bernardo at the top position. In singles play, LCU dominated across the lineup, winning five of six matches.
Anastasiia Opolska led the way with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles, while
Mariia Koroleva and Anamaria Zoric turned in straight-set victories at the No. 5 and No. 6 slots, respectively. Jacquemin battled back from a set down to secure a 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles, and
Maya Adler added a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 4.
On Sunday, the Lady Chaps faced a tough challenge against nationally ranked Mississippi College at the TJC Murphy Tennis Center, ultimately falling 4-3. LCU claimed the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and No. 3, as Opolska and Zoric secured a 6-3 win while Koroleva and
Oshini Herath cruised to a 6-2 decision. In singles,
Andrea De Bernardo provided an emphatic 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2, and Zoric kept LCU's hopes alive with a dominant 6-2, 6-0 result at No. 6. However, Mississippi College responded with key wins at No. 1, No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 to edge out the victory.
LCU rebounded Monday with a 4-1 win over Harding back at the TJC Brookshire Community Tennis Center. The Lady Chaps secured the doubles point after Opolska and Zoric posted a 6-0 shutout at No. 2 and Herath and Koroleva clinched with a 6-3 victory at No. 3. In singles, Zoric continued her dominant weekend with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 4, Koroleva picked up a decisive 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 3, and Herath sealed the win with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph at No. 5.
Over the three-match stretch, Zoric emerged as a key performer for LCU, going undefeated in singles (3-0) and doubles play (2-0). She is 9-2 on the season in singles and leads LCU with a five-match win streak in singles. Koroleva leads LCU in singles wins this season with 11 (11-3 on the season).
LCU (6-2) makes their home debut Saturday with a pair of duals, as they host Metropolitan State of Denver (10 a.m.) and Emporia State (1 p.m.) at Penny Gullo Tennis Center.
