Three Chaps Homer in Loss

LCU Topped 21-11 by TAMIU in Series-Opener

LAREDO, Texas (March 14, 2025) – Lubbock Christian fell behind early and Texas A&M International poured on runs late as the Chaparrals fell 21-11 in run rule fashion on Friday at Jorge Haynes Field.

LCU used nine different pitchers in the game, allowing a season-high 21 runs and tying their season-high with 20 hits allowed. They also walked a season-high 13 batters in the loss. The Dustdevils hit .588 in the game and put their leadoff batter on in all seven frames.

Offensively, the Chaps reached the double-digit run mark for the 13th time this season, despite hitting just .214 with runners in scoring position. Brock Tijerina led the way at the plate, collecting three hits, including a three-run homer. Ryan Blackwell and Nicklaus Baumbach also homered in the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Lubbock Christian threatened in the top of the first, but had a run cut down at the plate. TAMIU immediately took the lead, scoring a pair in the bottom of the frame. The scored two more in both the second and third to build an early 6-0 lead.

The Chaps finally got on the board in the top of the fourth on Blackwell's second homer of the season, which was a solo shot, but the Dustdevils answered right back with four more in the bottom of the inning.

Baumbach's homer led off the fifth, and Tijerina scored on a wild pitch after he hit a single and Johnny Gomez III doubled. Again, Texas A&M International answered, putting up another four-spot in the bottom of the inning.

The three-run shot from Tijerina came in the sixth as the Chaps plated five total. They were threatening for more with a runner at third and one out, but Kade York lined out and the runner was doubled off.

LCU's final two runs came on a pinch-hit triple from Kyle Lewis in the top of seventh. In the bottom of the frame, TAMIU scored three to enact the 10-run rule.
