Giese Grabs Second LSC Player of the Week After Dominant Road Trip

LCU’s Kelly Giese Goes Undefeated in California, Earns Second LSC Weekly Award

RICHARDSON, Texas (March 20, 2025) – The Lone Star Conference recognized Kelly Giese with Lone Star Conference Player of the Week honors in men's tennis, as Giese claims his second honor of the season and of his career.
 
Kelly Giese delivered a standout performance across a three-match road swing, helping the Chaparrals to victories over No. 7 Azusa Pacific, No. 36 Concordia Irvine, and Point Loma. The Manhattan Beach, Calif. anchored LCU's success at No. 2 singles, going 3-0 during his homecoming, highlighted by a three-set comeback victory against Azusa Pacific's No.22 Soeren Grandke, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. He followed that up with a hard-fought 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) victory over Concordia Irvine's Felix Veyhle before cruising past Point Loma's Niclas Goltz (6-3, 6-1). In doubles play, Giese partnered with Blas Ruiz Romero to earn a 7-6 (7-3) victory over Concordia Irvine's top duo, while also posting a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles against Point Loma.
 
Giese has won five straight singles matches and is now 13-7 overall this season and 5-0 playing in No.2-singles.  Giese's performance has him ranked No.16 nationally in singles by the ITA. He is the first LSC player in men's tennis this season to claim the honor multiple times.
 
LCU is 13-1 on the season and riding a 12-match win streak, as they prepare for their LSC opener Mar. 28 vs. Midwestern State in Lubbock.
