LUBBOCK, Texas (March 21, 2025) – Although they finished the game with fewer hits than their opponent, Lubbock Christian took the series-opener against Texas A&M-Kingsville 10-8 at Hays Field on Friday night.

Senior Cadon Everett (2-1) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Lubbock Christian who improved to 17-10 overall and 16-9 in LSC play. The right-hander went 4.2 innings, giving up five runs, all of them earned, on eight hits, allowing no walks and striking out three. He relieved starter Karson Dunn, who had a solid first start as a Chap. Dunn struck out three in three and a third innings.

Senior Andrew Duran also made an impact on the mound for the Chaparrals, throwing one shutout inning while allowing no hits, with no walks and one strikeout. It was the 150th inning he has pitched in an LCU uniform, but his first save.

Brevin McCool's three extra base hits were the highlight of the day for the offense and included two doubles, a triple, two walks and four RBI. He also scored three runs. Junior Jacob Gutierrez put together a standout day at the dish as well, going 3-for-4 with a double, a walk and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Chaparrals got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Lubbock Christian got on the board thanks to Gutierrez's RBI double with one out.

The Javelinas failed to push any runs across before the Chaparrals offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. The Lubbock Christian offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a three-run double off the bat of McCool, which brought the score to 5-0 in favor of the Chaparrals.

Texas A&M-Kingsville narrowed Lubbock Christian's lead to 5-2 before the Chaparrals stretched the advantage to 6-2 in the third inning. The Chaparrals notched a run on senior Kade York's two-out RBI double.

The Javelinas gained ground, closing the gap to 6-4 until Lubbock Christian added some insurance in the fifth. Baumbach crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Chaparrals, bringing the advantage to 7-4.

The Chaparrals held Texas A&M-Kingsville off the board before building on their lead to 10-4 the following inning. Lubbock Christian scored three runs in the frame, buoyed by a two-RBI double from McCool. Texas A&M-Kingsville put four runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Chaparrals held on for the 10-8 win.
