Chaps Drop Series-Opener

All Nine LCU Starters Reach Base in Loss

LUBBOCK, Texas (March 7, 2025) - Lubbock Christian scored a lot early but not often enough as the Chaparrals fell to the No. 2 Angelo State Rams 19-9 Friday at Hays Field.

Lubbock Christian erased an early seven-run deficit, but was shut down at the plate in the later innings as ASU pulled away. Andrew Duran suffered the loss in relief as the Chaps fell to 10-9 overall and 9-8 in Lone Star Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Chaparrals were trailing 5-0 by the time they came to the plate in the first inning to face Ram starting pitcher Nick Wilson. Lubbock Christian answered with two runs of their own on solo shots from senior Brevin McCool and junior Jacob Gutierrez.

The Rams expanded their lead to 9-2 before the Chaparrals offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the second. The Lubbock Christian offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of senior Nicklaus Baumbach, which tightened the gap to 9-6.

Duran  held the Rams off the board in the top of the third before rallying to even it up in the bottom of the frame. Brock Tijerina led off with a double and Kade York doubled later in the frame. York came around to score on a single from Shea Bowen that tied the game. It was the last hit the Chaps had in the game.

Wilson hung zeros in the next two innings, and ASU relievers kept the Chaps scoreless in the final three frames. The Rams scored in every remaining inning except the sixth on the way to the win.

GAME NOTES
