PORTALES, N.M. (April 11, 2025) – Lubbock Christian played into extras for the second-straight Friday, dropping the series-opener at Eastern New Mexico 6-5 in 11 innings.
Â
LCU lost the game despite out-hitting the host Greyhounds 10-7 in large part due to the 12 walks issued by Chaparral pitchers. The only time this season they have walked more batters was in the 21-11 loss at Texas A&M International on March 14, which was coincidentally the last time they lost a series-opener.
Â
Logan Moore suffered the loss in relief as the Chaps fell to 23-16 overall and 22-15 in Lone Star Conference play. He issued back-to-back walks to start the bottom of the 11
th before the Chaps got an out.
Stoney Rhodes then came on and got Willie Ponce to fly out before another walk set up Luciano Terilli's walkoff single.
Â
Andrew Duran was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 4.1 shutout innings without allowing a run or a hit.
Jacob Gutierrez,
Kyle Lewis and
Frayner Chavez all had two hits apiece at the plate.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Chaparrals got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning.
Brock Tijerina came across to score the lone run of the inning for Lubbock Christian and get them on the board.
Â
The Greyhounds failed to push any runs across before the Chaparrals offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Lubbock Christian scored once on an RBI single off the bat of
Brevin McCool, which brought the Chaparrals lead to 2-0.
Â
ENMU answered in the bottom of the fourth with a pair of runs and then briefly took the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Anthony Cortese cleared the bases with a double down the left field line.
Â
In the top of the sixth, LCU got all three runs back, getting RBI singles from
Brock Tijerina and
Ryan Blackwell before
Kade York tied the game with a groundout. The Chaps would only have one more hit over the next five innings – a triple from Gutierrez in the seventh – before ENMU walked it off in the 11
th.
