LUBBOCK, Texas (April 21, 2025) – Lubbock Christian University women's tennis closed its home slate in dominant fashion Monday afternoon, recording a 7-0 sweep of Lone Star Conference newcomer Sul Ross State in the first-ever meeting between the two programs at Penny Gullo Tennis Center. The win marked LCU's fifth shutout of the season and 14th in program history, including their 12th by a 7-0 margin. It also capped a perfect weekend for the Lady Chaps, who posted consecutive shutouts for the second time in their three-year history following Friday's 7-0 win over Western New Mexico.
Doubles play opened with a forfeit at the No. 3 position, where
Alexandra Luders and
Oshini Herath were awarded the point due to the Lobos' incomplete lineup. LCU quickly clinched the doubles point with a 6-0 win at No. 1 by No. 19 regionally-ranked duo
Axelle Jacquemin and
Andrea De Bernardo over Breanna Quarles and Nayr Moreno. The newly-formed pair of
Maya Adler and
Mariia Koroleva made their debut as a tandem at No. 2, blanking Emma Gonzalez and Malia Williams-Sala 6-0 to complete the doubles sweep. The order of finish in doubles was 3, 1, 2.
Singles play followed a similar script, with LCU dropping just six total games across the six courts. Luders received her second win of the day via forfeit at No. 6 singles to put LCU ahead 2-0. Adler made it 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 over Gonzalez, followed by Koroleva's identical 6-0, 6-0 triumph at No. 3 against Moreno for the clinching fourth point. De Bernardo continued the run at No. 2, dispatching Quarles 6-0, 6-0, before No. 40-ranked
Anastasiia Opolska followed with a 6-0, 6-0 win at the top line against Williams-Sala. In the most competitive set, sophomore
Allison Lent outlasted Madalyn Marquez 7-5, 6-1 at No. 5 to cap the sweep and secure her first singles win of the season and the third of her collegiate career. The singles order of finish was 6, 4, 3, 2, 1, 5.
Koroleva emerged as a standout across the weekend, notching her team-leading 19th singles win of the season and teaming with Adler for a strong debut in doubles. Lent's gritty performance at No. 5 capped a milestone day, while De Bernardo, Opolska, and Adler each posted flawless singles performances without dropping a game. With the win, No. 20 LCU improved to 16-5 overall and 6-2 in the LSC, while Sul Ross State fell to 0-13 (0-8 LSC), suffering their 11th shutout loss of the season.
The Lady Chaps now turn their attention to a key road swing to close the regular season, traveling to Dallas to face Dallas Baptist and to Tyler to face UT Tyler, with LSC Championship seeding implications on the line.
