Senior Stays Unbeaten in Lone Star Play, Powers No. 5 LCU to 16th Straight Win

RICHARDSON, Texas (April 9, 2025) – The Lone Star Conference recognized Kelly Giese with Lone Star Conference Player of the Week honors in men's tennis, as Giese claims his third honor of the season and of his career.

Kelly Giese delivered a perfect week at the top line for No. 5 Lubbock Christian, going 4-0 combined in singles and doubles to help the Chaparrals extend their win streak to 16 straight matches and remain unbeaten in Lone Star Conference play. The junior standout from Manhattan Beach, Calif. opened the week with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over St. Mary's No. 1 Leonardo Fabbri and teamed with Jordan Georgiev for a 6-4 doubles win over Fabbri and Alvaro Soler, helping the Chaps secure a 7-0 sweep of the 47th-ranked Rattlers. Giese followed with a gritty, top-40 singles win on Sunday, outlasting No. 33 Jonathan Vega of UT Permian Basin 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (8-6) to seal his ninth consecutive singles victory. Earlier in the match, he and Georgiev clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 triumph over the No. 18-ranked duo of Krahofer and Vega. Giese remains unbeaten in LSC singles play (4-0) and is now 12-5 in dual singles action.

Giese's performance has him ranked No.12 nationally in singles by the ITA. He is the first LSC player in men's tennis this season to claim the honor multiple times.

LCU is 17-1 on the season and riding a 16-match win streak, as they take a break before returning to the courts Apr. 18 hosting Western New Mexico.
