Lady Chaps Seek First NCAA Regional Win Against Midwestern State in Program’s Postseason Debut

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (May 12, 2025) – Making their NCAA postseason debut in just the third year of program history, No. 20 Lubbock Christian University women's tennis heads to Wichita Falls for a South Central Regional clash against perennial power and host No. 3 Midwestern State  Monday at noon.

The Lady Chaparrals (17-7) enter as the No. 4 seed in the regional and are seeking to reverse the trend in a fiercely competitive head-to-head series with the top-seeded Mustangs, who hold a 3-1 advantage all-time. Each of the last three meetings between the two Lone Star Conference programs has been decided by a single point, with Midwestern State taking the last two 4-3 decisions—including their March 28 win in Lubbock. LCU's lone victory in the series came in postseason play at the 2023 LSC tournament, a 4-3 thriller in Arlington, Texas.

While LCU remains in search of its first conference win against the Mustangs and its first win over them in Wichita Falls, the Chaps bring momentum and star power to the regional stage. Anastasia Opolska, ranked No. 30 nationally in singles, anchors the top of the LCU lineup with a 19-9 overall record and 15-8 mark in dual play, including 12 wins at No. 1 singles. Maria Koroleva leads the team in total singles wins (20-8) and has won 15 matches in duals this spring, while Oshini Herath enters postseason play riding a hot streak, having won seven of her last eight singles matches. In doubles, the tandem of Andrea De Bernardo and Axelle Jacquemin, ranked No. 21 nationally, have notched 12 wins at the No. 1 line. De Bernardo also leads the squad with 21 total doubles wins on the year.

The Mustangs counter with a deep and experienced roster featuring three nationally ranked singles players, including No. 6 Jessica Binzari and No. 32 Sofia Giraldo, and a top-20 doubles team in Binzari and Anda Ghinga.

The winner advances to the NCAA Division II Championships final site in Florida, while the season ends for the losing team.
