AWARD CENTRAL
Lubbock Christian junior forward Pedro Lucas was named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Lucas had an impressive start to his Lubbock Christian career, scoring three goals and assisting one other in the opening weekend of soccer season. He had the lone goal for the Chaps against No. 6 Fort Lewis, converting on a first half penalty kick. Then against Adams State, he scored twice and recorded an assist, become the first LCU player to tally five points in one match since Sept. 14, 2023. Lucas finished the week with six total shots, four of which were on goal. He currently ranks No. 3 in the nation with seven points.

SHOT STOPPERS
In the win over Adams State, the Chaps kept the Grizzlies without a single shot on goal. The last time the Chaps held an opponent without a shot on goal for an entire match was Nov. 3, 2021, against Dallas Baptist. ASU ended the game with just three total shots and they only earned two corner kicks. The last time LCU held a team to three shots or fewer, was Sept. 3, 2022 against South Dakota Mines.

FAIR OR FOUL
Through the first weekend of play, Lubbock Christian is averaging just 7.0 fouls per game, which is the second-fewest in the LSC. The only team with fewer fouls per game than the Chaps is DBU, who only played one game on opening weekend and committed five fouls in the contest. Meanwhile, LCU's two opponents last week averaged 14.5 fouls per game against them. Last season the Chaps were tied for the third-fewest fouls in the conference with an average of 10.06 per game.

WHERE THE HEART IS
This weekend features the first two home games of the season, which will feature six more throughout the year. Last season the Chaps posted a 2-3-3 record on their home turf, and they have not posted more wins than losses in Lubbock since the 2022 campaign, when they were 4-2-3. The LCU Soccer & Track Complex was completed in August of 2020 and features an AstroTurf playing surface, a Musco lighting system to allow for night games and stadium seating for 500 fans. LCU's men have an all-time record of 59-38-20 in home games. The best season at home was just their second in existence, as they went 8-1-1 in 2011.

HE'S A KEEPER
Connor Pettigrew started both games in goal for the Chaps on opening weekend. It was the 24th and 25th starts of his collegiate career and he is now 9-9-5 in goal. The shutout against Adams State was his eighth. He has made 81 saves in his career with just 33 goals allowed for a 1.40 goals against average and a save percentage of .711. An accounting major, Pettigrew was also named to the All-LSC and CSC All-Region Academic teams last season.

LOOKING AT THE LONE STAR
Five teams in the conference went without a loss in the opening weekend of the 2025 season. UT Tyler and West Texas A&M both went 1-0, while Midwestern State, St Edward's and St. Mary's each won a game and tied a game. On the flip side, Texas A&M International, DBU, Sul Ross and UT Dallas were all winless on the weekend, although TAMIU tied both of its matches. LCU's matchup with UT Dallas on Saturday will not count against conference standings, and they will have one more weekend of nonconference before LSC play begins on Oct. 1.

SCOUTING THE RIVERHAWKS
  • NSU was winless in their first weekend of competition, tying Drury 1-1 and losing to Lincoln 3-1
  • Last season the Riverhawks were 3-8-7 overall, including a 3-5-4 record in MIAA play
  • Head coach Rob Czlonka is in his 15th season leading the program, posting an overall record of 142-82-28
  • NSU split the goalkeeping duties last week, starting both Cameron McColloch and Jaron Nobel in the net. Nobel made more saves (5/1) but allowed three goals as well
  • The Riverhawks took 27 shots across the first to games, putting a whopping 66.7 percent of them on goal

A WIN ON THURSDAY WOULD
  • Be the 122nd in Lubbock Christian program history (121-100-39)
  • Be the 20th under head coach Collin Cone (19-19-7)
  • Be the Chaps' first-ever win against Northeastern State since the series began in 2024 (0-0-1)
