CHAPARRAL HEADERS
  • Lubbock Christian remains at home for their next contest, hosting St. Mary's at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex
  • Chaparral forwards Pedro Lucas and Manu Nunez both rank in the top 10 in the conference in shots on goal with 10 and eight, respectively
  • Senior defender and team captain Geoffroy Letienne leads the team in time on the field with 607 minutes played. He also led the team in 2024 with 1452 minutes
  • Connor Pettigrew has made 16 saves so far this season, which is tied for the second-most in the Lone Star Conference. His only goal allowed vs. SRSU came on a penalty kick
  • The Rattlers have just one win so far this season, but also only one loss. They have ended a whopping five games in draws already this season

IN THEIR DEFENSE
Lubbock Christian is allowing an average of just 1.00 goals per game through non-conference play, a mark that is tied for fourth-best in the LSC. Chaparral opponents are averaging just 11.1 shots per game this season, including only seven from Sul Ross last Wednesday. They have put only 28 of those shots on goal, for a shots on goal percentage of only 35.9 percent. Senior captain Geoffroy Letienne anchors the back line with a team-leading 607 minutes played.

HE'S A KEEPER
The Chaparrals have used only senior Connor Pettigrew in goal this season, with the Frisco, Texas, native playing all 630 minutes. His goals against average of 1.00 ranks fifth in the league and he has posted a .727 save percentage against 78 shots faced with a pair of shutouts. He has 20 saves on the year and last week was named the Lone Star Conference Goalkeeper of the Week. In his fourth season with the Chaps Pettigrew has an all-time record of 9-13-6 in 30 games played.

SHOOTING STARS
Despite their recent offensive struggles, Lubbock Christian has not been without its chances, taking 96 shots overall, which is the second-most in the conference, only behind West Texas A&M. Twenty-three of those came in their most recent game against SRSU and was their second-most in a single game this season. Of those, 33 have been on goal, which is tied for the fifth most in the LSC. Manu Nunez leads the team in shots with 15, while Pedro Lucas leads in shots on goal with 10, including a season-high four against the Lobos.

PRESEASON POLL
With conference play starting this week, it seems as good a time as ever to revisit the league's preseason poll. Lubbock Christian was picked to finish sixth in the 2025 Lone Star Conference preseason poll, which was voted on by LSC head coaches, sports information directors and media members. The Chaps drew 169 total points in the poll, which was led by Midwestern State. The top six teams by points at the end of the regular season will advance to the LSC Tournament, which will be hosted Nov. 8-15. The quarterfinal matchups will be hosted by the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds, semifinals are hosted by the No. 1 and No. 2 seed; and title match will be hosted by the highest remaining seed.

FRIENDLY CONFINES
Lubbock Christian suffered losses in each of their first three home games of the season after going 2-3-3 at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex in 2024. Including the St. Mary's contest, there are five more home games this season. They have not posted more wins than losses in Lubbock since the 2022 campaign, when they were 4-2-3. The LCU Soccer & Track Complex was completed in August of 2020 and features an AstroTurf playing surface, a Musco lighting system to allow for night games and stadium seating for 500 fans. LCU's men have an all-time record of 59-41-20 in home games. The best season at home was just their second in existence, as they went 8-1-1 in 2011.

FRESH FACES
If you haven't seen the LCU men in action yet this season, you might not recognized a lot of the faces on the field. In both transfers and high school recruits,  Lubbock Christian added 19 new players. Seven of the players are transfers from other schools and 11 are fresh out of high school. Three players transferred from Division I schools, including Joao Catafesta (New Hampshire), Pedro Lucas (Albany) and Augusto Militao (Missouri-Kansas City).

SCOUTING THE RATTLERS
  • St. Mary's was picked to finish second in the LSC preseason poll and took 13 first place votes, along with the Preseason Defensive Player and Goalkeeper of the Year awards
  • StMU's lone win so far this season came at No. 17 UC-Colorado Springs by a score of 1-0
  • The Rattlers have played three other nationally ranked opponents already this season – CSU-Pueblo, Fort Lewis and Rogers State – tying with all of them
  • StMU has gotten goals from five different players so far this season, led by Luke Mulkey and Enzo Jaques with two apiece
  • Head coach Johnny Clifford is in his fourth year leading the Rattlers, boasting a 77-30-28 all-time record

A WIN ON WEDNESDAY WOULD
  • Be the 122nd in Lubbock Christian program history (121-105-39)
  • Be the 20th under head coach Collin Cone (19-24-7)
  • Be the Chaps' sixth-ever win against St. Mary's since the season series began in 2013 (5-6-2) and their first win in the series since 2021
