Â
LOOKING AT THE LONE STAR
St. Mary's suffered its first loss in league play on Saturday, meaning that even with a tie against West Texas A&M, Midwestern State has taken sole possession in the top spot in the LSC standings. The Rattlers are still just a point back of first place, but are now tied for second with Oklahoma Christian. UT Dallas and DBU are currently tied for fifth with 10 points apiece. The Chaps currently sit in sixth with nine points, but only have two games remaining because of a bye on Saturday. The top six teams by points at the end of the regular season will advance to the LSC Tournament, which opens on Oct. 31.
Â
BALANCED ATTACK
Lubbock Christian has scored an even 20 goals through the first 15 games of the season, averaging a 1.33 per contest, which seventh in the conference. Those goals have been scored by eight different players, led by
Augusto Militao, who now has five after a brace against the Buffs last week. Militao is currently tied for fifth in the conference with 12 total points.
Alex Lachevre also scored against WT last week and has four goals this season. Another three Chaps have scored at least twice. The Chaps are averaging 12.7 shots per game and putting 41.9 percent of those on frame. Freshman Oliver Robinson ranks eighth in the league with 35 shots.
Â
KEEPING UP WITH THE CHAPS
Lubbock Christian junior goalkeeper
Milo Paci made five saves against Dallas Baptist, bringing his season total to 58. He ranks second in the LSC in that category. Paci has faced 175 shots overall this season in more than 1200 minutes in goal. He has a 1.42 goals against average and a .753 save percentage. In the Oct. 7 game against UT Dallas, Paci made a career-high 12 saves, which was the most by a Chap in a single game since 2019. Junior
Arath Valdez filled in while Paci was injured, making 14 saves in 135 minutes of action.
Â
MINUTE MEN
The Chaparrals had four different field players on the pitch for the full 90 minutes in Saturday's game against Dallas Baptist. The group included
Finn Wijnen, Max Moorahren,
Joao Catafesta and Alex Lachvre. Catafesta is the team-leader in minutes played with 1,252, and Saturday marked the sixth time he has played the full 90. Wijnen is second on the team with 1,157 minutes of action, despite missing 80 minutes of a game after a red card. Four other LCU players have been on the field for more than 1000 minutes this year.
Â
ROAD JOURNAL
Road contests have been the number one struggle for the Chaps this season, with an 0-6-0 record in games away from Lubbock. Wednesday is the seventh and final road game in the 2026 regular season. They went 4-4-2 in road games last season with wins at Adams State, St. Edward's (2) and West Texas A&M. The last time they had more wins than losses in road games was the 2023 season, when they were 3-1-4. Their best season on the road was in 2013, when they went 6-2-0. Stang Park features a natural grass playing surface.
Â
NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
Lubbock Christian lost a lot from their 2025 LSC runner-up team, which means the 2026 edition of the Chaps have been relying on a number of newcomers. Of the five LCU players who have started all eight games so far this year, three – goalkeepers
Milo Paci and
Arath Valdez, defender
Max Moorahrend and midfielder
Alex Lachevre – are brand new to LCU. The Chaparral leader in shots with 20 – forward
Oli Robinson – is also new, and the Chaps have also relied heavily on newcomers
Finn Wijnen,
Tom Unwin and
Jackson Preece.
Â
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
- MSU is the reigning national runner-up, losing 2-0 to Rollins in last year's national championship game in Colorado Springs
- The Mustang offense is averaging 2.786 goals per game, which leads the conference, and they are allowing less than a goal per game
- Parker Plaxco leads the MSU offense with 12 goals on the year, a mark that also ranks atop the LSC
- MSU's four ties this year have come against West Texas A&M, Oklahoma Christian, MSU-Denver and #12 UCCS, and three of the four have been in road games
- Jake Morris has handled the majority of the goalkeeping duties for the Mustangs, making 48 saves with a .800 save percentage in almost 1400 minutes of action
Â
A WIN ON WEDNESDAY WOULD:
• Be the 135th in Lubbock Christian program history (134-117-42)
• Be the 34th under head coach
Collin Cone (33-34-21)
• Be the Chaps' first-ever win against Midwestern State since the all-time series began in 2014 (0-12-4)
