Lady Chaps Let Lead Slip Away Late

LUBBOCK, Texas (October 24, 2026) — Lubbock Christian University built an early lead, but fell to St. Edward's 3-2 on Saturday at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex. The Lady Chaps finished with a 13-10 shot advantage and put nine shots on goal, but SEU scored twice in the second half to secure the road win.

The Lady Chaps are 8-5-4 overall and 5-4-4 in conference play. The Hilltoppers are 5-8-4 overall and 5-5-3 in conference play.

LCU built a quick two-goal advantage in the opening 12 minutes. After Emma Wright saved Macy Jennings' shot in the first minute, Addyson McElhaney put the Lady Chaps in front at 3:30 off Casey Storer's assist. Storer played the ball to McElhaney just outside the 18-yard box, and the freshman took a shot, bending the ball into the top right corner to get the Lady Chaps on the board.

Maya Quinones made it 2-0 less than 10 minutes later on an assist from Ceci Madrid, who played the ball across the box to her. The Lady Chaps continued to generate shots through McElhaney and Journey Curs before Sisson answered for the Hilltoppers in the 17th minute. After SEU earned corner kicks at 18:42, 19:10 and 26:07, the Lady Chaps held the score there and had late attempts from Curs in the 37th and 45th minutes, both saved by Peyton Medina. LCU went to the break up 2-1.

Just 10 minutes into the second half, SEU tied the match when Sierra Padilla scored off Macy Jennings' assist. The Lady Chaps tried to retake the lead just 30 seconds later with Kali Guy's shot, but it was saved by Medina.

Lubbock Christian kept creating chances, with Claire Jacobson forcing another save in the 65th minute and Araceli Patterson sending a shot wide after a corner kick, but were unable to ease back in front. Riley Sisson's penalty kick at 71:47 put the Hilltoppers on top.

The Lady Chaps spent the final 10 minutes pressing for an equalizer after the Hilltoppers had gone ahead 3-2, taking shots from Madrid, Logan Holloway and Curs along with a corner kick but could not find the net.

GAME NOTES:
- McElhaney found the back of the net at the 3:30 mark, which is the earliest goal scored by a Lady Chap since Sept. 20, 2023, when Kenley Blevins scored at the 2:38 mark in a 2-0 win against Eastern New Mexico
- The Lady Chaps fall to 3-16-3 all-time against SEU and have not won against the Hilltoppers since 2024
- Quinones scored the first goal of her collegiate career, becoming the 12th different Lady Chap with a goal this year.
- Remaining at 19 points, and with UT Dallas defeating West Texas A&M 1-0, the Lady Chaps and Comets are now tied for seventh in the LSC standings with 19 points apiece. LCU could still finish as high as sixth in the league
- This was LCU's first loss this season in a match in which they scored first. They were previously 7-0-0 in those contests
