Lady Chaps Fall in LSC Tournament

Late Heroics Spoiled in Overtime Loss

LUBBOCK, Texas (October 30, 2026) — Lubbock Christian University lost to UT Dallas 3-2 on Friday in the first round of the Lone Star Conference Tournament.

The Lady Chaps finish the season 8-6-5 overall and 5-4-5 in conference play. The Comets improve to 10-5-4 overall and 5-5-4 in conference play.

LCU kept the match scoreless early while the Comets earned three corner kicks in the opening 16 minutes, and the home side answered with shots from Journey Curs and Claire Jacobson. UTD broke through at 29:45 on Avery Riley's goal, assisted by Amy Escorza, and Emma Wright later saved Gabby Thompson's shot to keep the Lady Chaps within one.

The Lady Chaps pushed back with consecutive corner kicks at 38:14 and 38:44, followed by a Sydney Smith shot. Kali Guy gave the Lady Chaps the first-half response they needed with just seconds to spare before the break, scoring from 30 yards out to equalize.

More saves Emma Wright kept the Lady Chaps even at 48:36 and 51:34 as the Comets generated two corner kicks and three shots in the opening minutes after halftime. The Lady Chaps created chances of their own when Curs and Guy put shots on frame in the 66th and 67th minutes, but Melyna Martinez saved both before Grace Pritchard scored for UTD at 67:50 to make it 2-1.

LCU pressed hard for another tying goal, getting a corner kick and a shot from Curs that was saved, but had limited offensive chances as the clock wound down. With just over a minute to play though, Curs was fouled 40 yards out. She took the free kick herself and rocketed a shot into the top right corner to tie the game.

Emma Wright kept the score level early in overtime, saving Gabby Thompson's shot in the 92nd minute after UTD created the first look of overtime. Curs answered 22 seconds later with a shot saved by Melyna Martinez, then forced another Martinez save at 97:43 after the Comets had sent a shot over the top.

The second overtime lasted only 18 seconds, with UTD scoring at 100:18 to end the match at 3-2. UTD converted on Ella Spiller's goal, leaving the Lady Chaps with the overtime loss.
