BEAUMONT, Texas (February 1, 2026) — Lubbock Christian University continued their exhibition slate at Thompson Family Tennis Center, dropping a pair of played-to-clinch duals to Lamar in a women's tennis doubleheader as the Cardinals secured 4–1 decisions in both matches.
Match 1 (Lamar 4, LCU 1)
Lamar seized early momentum by taking the doubles point, winning at No. 2 and No. 1 to move ahead 1–0. LCU's No. 3 tandem of
Kristel Jativa and
Ana Sofía Valero Treviño was locked at one set apiece before the match went unfinished following the clinch.
The Lady Chaps answered immediately in singles as
Andrea De Bernardo delivered LCU's lone point of the match, cruising past Arina Gudovskaya in straight sets at No. 1, 6–4, 6–2, to level the score at 1–1. Lamar regained control moments later when Luana Paiva defeated
Oshini Herath at No. 3, followed quickly by Asta Miettinen's straight-set win over Jativa at No. 4. The clinching point came at No. 6, where Martina Alcaino topped
Aitanna Moreno Villa, sealing the decision with two singles matches left unfinished.
Match 2 (Lamar 4, LCU 1)
LCU rebounded early in the nightcap by claiming the No. 3 doubles match as Jativa and Valero Treviño rolled to a 6–1 win, briefly keeping the doubles point in play. Lamar, however, closed out victories at No. 1 and No. 2 to secure the opening point.
Singles play again swung quickly in Lamar's favor. Paiva set the tone at No. 3 with a straight-set victory, and Martina Alcaino followed with a win at No. 6 to extend the lead to 3–0. De Bernardo once again answered for LCU, notching her second straight-set win of the day at No. 2, but Lamar clinched moments later as Savannah Bijlsma captured the deciding point at No. 5. Two additional singles matches were halted once the outcome was secured.
Series Notes & Performers
De Bernardo was the standout for LCU across the doubleheader, finishing a perfect 2–0 in singles play while competing at the top of the lineup. Jativa and Valero Treviño provided a consistent bright spot in doubles, earning LCU's lone doubles victory of the day and remaining competitive in both pairings. The exhibition matches marked LCU's second and third tune-ups of the 2025-26 season, offering valuable lineup reps against a Division I opponent in a played-to-clinch format.
LCU will play its final exhibition dual Monday in Lake Charles, La., traveling to face McNeese State at the Nancy Hank Tennis Center. The dual, originally scheduled for Saturday, was moved due to cold weather and is set to begin at 10 a.m.
