Andrea De Bernardo was named Women's Singles Player of the Week and teamed with sophomore
AnaMaria Zoric to earn Women's Doubles Team of the Week recognition following an unbeaten week for the Lady Chaparrals.
The honors follow a 2-0 week for Lubbock Christian University that included a 7-0 Lone Star Conference-opening victory at University of Texas Permian Basin and a 6-1 home win over Colorado Mesa University.
De Bernardo went 2-0 at No. 1 singles to lead the Lady Chaps, opening the week with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Fanny Bergstrom in LCU's conference opener before following with a dominant 6-0, 6-2 win against Devyn Rodriguez in Saturday's victory over Colorado Mesa. The junior from Caracas, Venezuela also paired with Zoric to collect two victories at No. 1 doubles. De Bernardo improved to 11-6 on the season with the pair of victories.
Zoric added to the strong week with a pair of singles victories at the No. 2 position. She opened conference play with a 6-2, 3-6, 10-5 win over Dinethya Dharmaratne before defeating Valentina Gonzalez 7-5, 6-1 against Colorado Mesa. The sophomore from Dubrovnik, Croatia leads LCU with a 13-6 singles record this season, including a 7-1 mark in dual matches.
In doubles, De Bernardo and Zoric continued their strong play as the nationally ranked tandem extended its winning streak to eight matches. The duo opened the week with a 7-5 victory over Bergstrom and Sophia Rashid at UT Permian Basin before edging Jade Brilhante and Rodriguez 7-6 (7-2) against Colorado Mesa. The pair is unbeaten this spring at the No. 1 position, holding a 7-0 dual-match record.
The duo is currently ranked No. 21 nationally in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, while Zoric also moved into the national singles rankings at No. 65.
The doubles honor carries historic significance for the Lady Chaparrals, as this season marks the first year the Lone Star Conference has recognized a Doubles Team of the Week award. De Bernardo and Zoric become the first duo in program history to receive the recognition.
De Bernardo becomes the fourth Lady Chaps player to earn a conference weekly honor and the first since
Mariia Koroleva was recognized on March 26, 2025. It is De Bernardo's second weekly honor (becomes LCU's first two-time recipient) previously earned Lone Star Conference Player of the Week honors on March 7, 2024.
The Lady Chaparrals improved to 6-3 overall and 1-0 in Lone Star Conference play with the victories and will return to action March 22 when they travel to face Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Oklahoma.
