KINGSVILLE, Texas (March 20, 2026) — Lubbock Christian University got on the board early but gave up a barrage of runs late, falling to Texas A&M-Kingsville with a final score of 10-4 on Friday at Nolan Ryan Field.
The Chaparrals showcased power at the plate with two home runs and four doubles but also struck out 19 times in the game. The Javelinas capitalized on the Chaps' three errors and surged ahead with a three-run eighth inning to secure the victory.
Lubbock Christian and Texas A&M-Kingsville exchanged early blows in the first inning.
Kyle Lewis and
Jorge De Los Santos each hit solo home runs in the top of the first, putting the Chaparrals on the board, while the Javelinas responded with two runs, including an RBI double by Landon Salinas to end the first frame all knotted up at two.
TAMUK took a brief lead in the bottom of the second, but in the third inning, De Los Santos delivered again for the Chaps with an RBI double, scoring
Hudson Grace and leveling the score. The Javelinas regained the lead with an RBI single from Cade Minus, making it 4-3 in their favor by the end of the third.
The Chaps tied the game one last time in the fifth inning when Lewis scored on a fielder's choice by De Los Santos but were unable to do any more damage.
TAMUK pulled ahead for good in the sixth when Travis Vlasek scored on a wild pitch, bringing the score to 5-4. They continued to build their lead in the seventh with two more runs, aided by a throwing error and a wild pitch, ending the inning up 7-4.
The eighth inning saw the Javelinas extend their lead with a three-run homer by Isaiah Aguilar, bringing the score to where it stood at the end of the game.
Lewis contributed significantly with a home run and two hits, resulting in two runs scored. De Los Santos drove in three runs with a home run and a double, while also recording two hits.
Tanner Pachorek added a double.
GAME NOTES:
- Lewis' home run to lead off the game was the first by a Chap this season. The last time a Chaparral player did it was on April 13, 2025, against Eastern New Mexico.
- The Chaps struck out 19 times in the game. It is their most times struck out since April 4, 2024, when they struck out 21 times against Texas A&M-Kingsville, but that game lasted 13 innings. The last time an LCU team struck out 19 or more times in a nine regulation game was Feb. 21, 2017, in a 3-2 win against West Texas A&M.
- With homers from both Lewis and De Los Santos, the Chaps now have 38 on the season, which leads the Lone Star Conference.
- Lubbock Christian had just two hits with runners on base all game and were 1-for-9 (.111) with runners in scoring position.
- Javelina outfielder Joshua Endo came into the game leading his team with a .396 batting average, but the Chap pitching staff kept him hitless in five at-bats with three strikeouts.
