LUBBOCK, Texas (March 29, 2026) — Lubbock Christian University secured a series win over St. Edwards University with a 15-5 run-rule victory at Hays Field on Sunday.
The Chaparrals' offense was bolstered by four home runs and two triples, contributing to a combined 10-run outburst in the fifth and sixth innings. The Hilltoppers managed to score five runs, including three in the fifth inning, but could not keep pace with the home team's impressive offensive display.
LCU got off to a strong start in the first inning, with
Kyle Lewis singling up the middle to lead off and scoring on a
Hudson Grace single down the right field line.
Owen Alsup added a solo home run to give the Chaps a 2–0 lead through the first inning.
In the second inning,
Johnny Gomez III was hit by a pitch and later scored on a single by Lewis, increasing the lead to 3–0 after two innings.
Jorge De Los Santos and
Ryan Gargett each hit solo home runs in the third inning, extending the advantage to 5–0.
SEU got on the board with a solo home run by Nicodemus Ruedas in the fourth inning, making it 5–1 as the Chaps went scoreless for the first time in the bottom of the frame. The Hilltoppers held onto the momentum with three more runs in the top of the fifth to pull within one.
The Chap offense responded in a big way in the bottom half of the inning though. They loaded the bases with the first three batters of a frame and pushed in a run with a walk to
Roe Forrest. Then
Freddie Nolen came to bat and crushed a two-strike pitch over the wall in right center for a grand slam.
The sixth inning saw Lubbock Christian pull further ahead. Grace tripled and scored on a single by Gargett, followed by a bases-loaded walk to Nolen and a three-run triple by
Dylan Marx, making it 15–4. The Hilltoppers added a run in the seventh inning, but
Will Cooper came out of the pen and allowed no further scoring to end the game early.
Bryce Nall was the winner on the mound, pitching 4 2/3 innings while allowing six hits and four earned runs. Nall struck out six batters and issued one walk, throwing 90 pitches with 55 strikes. Cooper closed the game with a scoreless inning, facing three batters without allowing a hit or issuing a walk.
