Strong Start, Tough Finish: Chaps Split in LSC Road Trip

LCU Claims Doubles Points In Both Matches, Earns Win Over UT Dallas Before Ranked Setback

TYLER, Texas (March 29, 2026) – Lubbock Christian University split a pair of Lone Star Conference road duals over the weekend, opening the trip with a 6-1 win Friday at UT Dallas in Richardson, Texas before falling 5-2 to No. 27 UT Tyler Saturday in Tyler.

LCU (9-4) opened the trip Friday by claiming the doubles point in its first-ever meeting with UT Dallas, as the No.24 nationally ranked team of Andrea De Bernardo and AnaMaria Zoric delivered the first result with a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles and Kristel Jativa and Ana Sofía Valero Treviño followed with a 6-3 victory at No. 3 to clinch the point.

The Lady Chaps then quickly took control in singles, with De Bernardo earning the first singles point at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-3 win and Zoric adding a dominant 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 2. The dual effectively turned at No. 5 singles, where Valero Treviño rallied from a first-set loss to win in a third-set tiebreak (4-6, 6-2, 10-6), pushing the lead to 4-0 before Aitanna Moreno Villa added a straight-set win at No. 6 and Jativa closed the match with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 4 to complete the 6-1 result.

LCU carried that momentum into Saturday's matchup at nationally ranked UT Tyler and once again earned the early advantage in doubles. Jativa and Valero Treviño were the first off the court with a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles before De Bernardo and Zoric secured the doubles point with a 6-4 victory over the nationally ranked Patriots' No. 1 tandem.

UT Tyler responded quickly in singles, however, winning the first four completed matches to clinch the dual, including straight-set wins at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 before finishing off the victory at the top of the lineup. The Lady Chaps avoided the singles-sweep behind Moreno Villa, who rallied for a 6-2, 2-6, 10-8 win at No. 6 singles to earn her third straight singles victory and gave LCU its second point of the match.

Several players stood out across the two duals for the Lady Chaps, beginning with De Bernardo and Zoric, who went 2-0 at No. 1 doubles over the weekend and improved to 11-2 overall (10-1 in dual matches) while continuing to anchor the top of the lineup. Zoric also strengthened her position as the team's singles wins leader, improving to 16-7 overall with a 10-2 record in dual play, while Jativa remained one of the most consistent players in the middle of the lineup, going 2-0 in doubles at No. 3 and picking up a key singles win against UT Dallas to improve to 15-6 overall and 9-1 in dual matches. Moreno Villa also played a key role in both matches, earning two wins at No. 6 singles, including a third-set tiebreak victory at UT Tyler that extended her winning streak to three matches and improved her to 7-6 overall and 6-2 in dual play.

With the split, Lubbock Christian moves to 2-1 in Lone Star Conference play and 4-3 in road matches this season and will return to action Thursday morning at Cameron in Lawton, Oklahoma.
