Chaps Lose Lead Late in Loss

Forrest Collects Four Hits on Friday

SAN ANGELO, Texas (March 6, 2026) — Lubbock Christian University fell to Angelo State University 10-3 on Friday at Foster Field. 

LCU led early thanks to a pair of home runs but gave up the game in the seventh when ASU scored nine runs. The visitors managed six hits and three stolen bases, but the Rams capitalized on five stolen bases and a nine-hit performance to secure the win.

The Chaps have a record of 8-11, while ASU holds a 15-4 record and ranks second in the LSC standings.

The Chaparrals took an early lead against the Rams, scoring in the second inning when Roe Forrest singled, advanced to third, and scored on Dylan Marx's RBI single to center.

In the third inning, Owen Alsup extended the Chaps' lead with a solo home run to left field. The score stood at 2-0 after three innings.

Meanwhile, Dakota McCaskill was dealing in his first-ever start in a Lubbock Christian uniform. The right-hander faced only one over the minimum through the first three frames, including one strikeout and one double play. 

In the fourth inning, Forrest crushed a solo home run to center field, adding another run for the Chaparrals. But an error allowed the Rams responded with a run of their own, cutting the lead to 3-1 through the fourth. 

The game remained 3-1 in favor of the Chaparrals until the seventh inning, when ASU erupted for nine runs. Key plays included a two-RBI triple by Garrett Wallace and several walks with the bases loaded, allowing ASU to pull ahead.

Lubbock Christian was unable to score in the final innings, and the Rams maintained their lead to win 10-3. 

GAME NOTES:
- With two more home runs, the Chaps remain second in the LSC in that category with 21 this season. Sul Ross is the only team with more at 28, but they have played four more games.
- McCaskill's 4 1/3 innings pitched set a new career high, surpassing his previous mark of 3 1/3 innings pitched on April 12, 2025, against Eastern New Mexico.
- The Lady Chaps put their leadoff batter on in five of the nine innings but had just one hit in 19 at-bats with runners on base.
- Lewis stole another base, bringing his season total to 15, which is tied for the LSC lead. It is also more than any Chap had in the entire 2025 season.
- The four-hit game by Forrest is the first of his Chaparral career and the fifth by a Chap this season.

Lubbock Christian will look to bounce back against Angelo State in Saturday's doubleheader, which. begins at 1 p.m. at Foster Field.
