SAN ANGELO, Texas (March 8, 2026) — Lubbock Christian University homered four times - including one apiece in the eighth and ninth - on the way to an 11-8 victory over Angelo State University at Foster Field on Sunday.
The Chaparrals capitalized on 14 hits to outpace the Rams. The team scored multiple runs in four different innings, including a crucial pair of runs in both the eighth and ninth innings. Despite ASU closing the gap with a three-run sixth inning, the Chaps pulled back in front and remained ahead thanks to strong relief outings by
Evan Roach and
Andrew Dalconzo.
Both teams went scoreless through the first frame as
Bryce Nall started on the mound for the Chaps. The Rams got to him for a pair in the second, but LCU got them right back in the third.
Dylan Marx initiated the rally for the Chaps with a double to left field, followed by
Kyle Lewis' two-run homer to left - the first of several on the day for the visitors.
Lubbock Christian took the lead in the fourth inning. Marx was in the mix again, this time doing the homering himself after a walk to
Ryan Gargett. Lewis then singled, and
Hudson Grace doubled to bring him home, pushing the Chaparrals ahead 5-3.
In the fifth inning,
Roe Forrest walked and advanced to third, scoring on
Jorge De Los Santos' single. De Los Santos later scored on a single by
Johnny Gomez III, extending the Chaps' lead to 7-3.
ASU got a run back in the bottom of the fifth and then leveled the score at 7-7 in the sixth, capitalizing on a hit by pitch and a two-RBI double from Austin Beck, setting up a tense final three frames.
Each team stranded runners in the seventh, as Roach worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the inning. LCU pushed back in front in the eighth, again with a base hit from Marx and a home run from Lewis that plated two Chap runs.
The Rams got one back in the eighth, but in the ninth Gargett singled and was brought home by
Johnny Gomez III's two-run homer, extending the Chaparrals' lead to 11-8.
Andrew Dalconzo closed the game, ensuring no further runs for the Rams, sealing the victory for Lubbock Christian.
Nall pitched 4.2 innings in his first start of the year, allowing four hits and three earned runs, while striking out seven batters and walking just one. He threw 97 pitches, 59 of which were strikes,
Evan Roach contributed 2.1 innings of relief and earned his first win of the season, allowing two hits and one run, while striking out two. Dalconzo closed the game, pitching a scoreless ninth inning with two strikeouts, earning his first save as a Chaparral.
