LUBBOCK, Texas (April 19, 2026) – The Lubbock Christian University track and field teams were teams were mostly in competition at the Greyhound Open in Portales, New Mexico, with one notable exception traveling to Azusa, California for the Bryan Clay Invitational.
California is where LCU got its only provisional mark of the weekend, which also set a new program record.
Olivia Weider set the mark in the 3000-meter steeplechase, completing the race with a time of 10:53.80. She broke the old record set by Amira Cunningham in 2018.
It was mostly field event competitors who made the trip to the Land of Enchantment, where LCU's highest finish came in the discus.
Shelby Robinson took fifth in the event with a top toss of 39.51 meters.
Freshman
Matilda Galvan too sixth in the triple jump with a lead of 11.30 meters, and sophomore
Faizah Ford took eighth in the same event with a new personal best, recording a mark of 10.87 meters.
Esperanza Cruz had her best javelin throw in a month, taking sixth with a toss of 35.50 meters.
The men's side of the Greyhound Open featured more Lubbock Christian athletes.
Aiden Zingone compete against a pair of South Plains college runners and won in the 3000-meter steeplechase, posting a time of 10:12.25, which is the third-best time of his career.
LCU athletes made up the majority of the 1500-meter field, where they were led by
Samuel Bryan, whose time of 4:08.01 placed him second.
Gavin Morrison and
Kaleb Gaona also both finished in the top five in the event.
Several Chaps also competed in the field events, including
Maurice Gray, who took fourth in the long jump and second in the triple jump, despite not hitting personal bests in either.
Mark Balizan did record a personal best of 12.0 meters in the triple jump, taking fourth in the event.
Lubbock Christian has just two more meets left before the Lone Star Conference Championships. Next weekend, they will be at the Michael Johnson Invite, hosted by Baylor in Waco, Texas.
