Lady Chaps Stay Perfect at Home, Roll Past Javelinas on Senior Day

Lubbock Christian Moves to 5-0 at Home with Dominant Win Over Texas A&M-Kingsville

LUBBOCK, Texas (April 23, 2026) – Lubbock Christian University remained perfect at home in Lone Star Conference play Thursday, defeating Texas A&M-Kingsville 6-1 at the Penny Gullo Tennis Center to improve to 14-5 overall and 7-2 in league action, while moving to 5-0 on their home courts.

The Lady Chaparrals claimed the doubles point with a sweep, taking matches in order of finish to seize early control. The first result came at No. 2 doubles, where Oshini Herath and Alexandra Luders cruised to a 6-1 victory. Kristel Jativa and Ana Sofía Valero Treviño followed at No. 3 with a 6-3 win, extending their recent momentum as a pairing. The point was secured at No. 1 doubles, as the No. 4-ranked tandem of Andrea De Bernardo and AnaMaria Zoric closed out a 6-3 decision over the No. 12-ranked Kingsville duo, pushing their winning streak to eight matches and giving LCU a 1-0 lead.

In singles, LCU built its advantage quickly behind a strong start in the lower half of the lineup. Aitanna Moreno Villa was first off court at No. 6 with a decisive 6-1, 6-2 victory to extend the lead to 2-0. Andrea De Bernardo followed at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win, and No. 60-ranked AnaMaria Zoric added a 6-0, 6-3 result at No. 2 as the third match to finish, stretching the margin to 4-0 for the clinch.

Texas A&M-Kingsville picked up its lone point at No. 3 singles, where Andrea Landaeta claimed a straight-set win over Oshini Herath to cut the deficit to 4-1. The Lady Chaparrals answered with a pair of tightly contested three-set victories to close out the dual. Kristel Jativa rallied at No. 4 singles, overcoming a first-set loss to win 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-6), before Ana Sofía Valero Treviño sealed the match at No. 5 with a comeback effort of her own, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 1-0 (10-5), completing the 6-1 final.

LCU's balance again proved critical, as No. 60 AnaMaria Zoric and Kristel Jativa each reached the 20-win mark in singles this season to co-lead the team, becoming the fifth and sixth players in program history to reach that milestone (in a single-season). De Bernardo improved to 18-9 overall (13-5 at No. 1), while Moreno Villa moved to 12-7 and extended her winning streak to four matches alongside De Bernardo and Jativa. In doubles, the No. 4-ranked duo of De Bernardo and Zoric improved to 17-2 overall (16-1 in duals), while Jativa and Valero Treviño moved to 16-10 overall and 12-5 at the No. 3 position, and Herath and Luders claimed their third consecutive victory together. Individually in doubles, Zoric goes to 20-5 in doubles, becoming the sixth player in program history to reach 20 wins in doubles in a single-season. De Bernardo was the fifth player in program history to accomplish 20 wins in doubles in a single season, as she claimed her 22nd doubles win of the season (64 in her career) as she is the first Lady Chaps member to claim at least 20 doubles wins in three consecutive seasons.

The win marked LCU's third consecutive victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville and improved the Lady Chaparrals to 3-1 all-time in the series (2-0 in Lubbock). Prior to the match, LCU celebrated Senior Day with the recognition of six Lady Chaps: Oshini Herath, Axelle Jacquemin, Allison Lent, Alexandra Luders, Hannah Quick and Lauren Shinneman. LCU will conclude the regular season Friday at 11 a.m. hosting No. 29 Angelo State in Lone Star Conference play at the Penny Gullo Tennis Center.
