LUBBOCK, Texas (April 29, 2026) – Lubbock Christian University junior
Andrea De Bernardo earned Lone Star Conference Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Week honors, while also pairing with sophomore
AnaMaria Zoric to claim LSC Doubles Team of the Week recognition, the conference office in Richardson, Texas announced Wednesday.
De Bernardo becomes the first three-time weekly honoree in program history (the Lady Chaps have claimed five Singles Player of the Week all-time in their program's history). The junior from Caracas, Venezuela, who also claimed the award March 11 (this is her second singles honor of the season), posted a perfect 2-0 record at No. 1 singles during the week, highlighted by a decisive clinching victory in a key Lone Star Conference matchup.
She opened play with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville's Maya Donker before delivering a clutch, come-from-behind performance against No. 29-ranked Margaux Rene of Angelo State University. After dropping the opening set, De Bernardo rallied for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory in the deciding match to secure a 4-3 team win. The result marked her second win this season over a nationally ranked opponent and extended her singles win streak to five matches while helping LCU finish conference play 8-2 and unbeaten at home for the first time in program history.
In doubles action, De Bernardo and Zoric continued their dominant campaign as the nation's No. 4-ranked tandem, producing a 2-0 week at the top flight against nationally ranked opposition. The duo opened with a 6-3 victory over the No. 12-ranked Texas A&M-Kingsville pair of Guadalupe Tocci and Maya Donker before earning a 7-5 win against the No. 17-ranked Angelo State combination of Benedetta Raggiotti and Margaux Rene.
The pair clinched the doubles point in the pivotal victory over Angelo State and extended their winning streak to nine matches. They remain unbeaten in Lone Star Conference play at 10-0 and have compiled a 7-0 mark against nationally ranked doubles teams this season.
The April 29 selections mark the second singles honor of the season for De Bernardo and the third doubles recognition for the pairing of De Bernardo and Zoric, having previously been recognized March 11 and April 8 (this is the first season for the LSC to recognize a Doubles Team of the Week honor).
LCU enters postseason competition as the No. 3 seed in the Lone Star Conference Championships and will open play Thursday at 9 a.m. against No. 6 seed Cameron University at the Arlington Tennis Center in Arlington, Texas.
