LCU Duo Named Doubles Team Of The Year As Lady Chaparrals Shine Across All-Conference And Academic Awards

ARLINGTON, Texas (April 30, 2026) – Lubbock Christian University placed multiple standouts on the Lone Star Conference postseason awards list, highlighted by a historic doubles recognition for junior Andrea De Bernardo and sophomore AnaMaria Zoric, as the league office in announced its 2026 women's tennis all-conference and all-academic honors at the LSC Championships Awards Banquet on the eve of the LSC Championships at Arlington Tennis Center.
 
De Bernardo and Zoric were named the Lone Star Conference Doubles Team of the Year, becoming the first duo in program history to earn the league's top doubles distinction. The tandem also garnered First Team All-LSC Doubles honors after assembling one of the most dominant campaigns in the nation. Ranked No. 2 nationally, the pair produced an 18-2 record together, including a 17-1 mark in dual matches and a perfect 10-0 run through conference play. They enter postseason competition riding a lengthy winning streak and boasting an unblemished 7-0 record against nationally ranked opponents.
 
De Bernardo added First Team All-LSC Singles recognition, marking the highest singles honor of her career and continuing her steady rise within the conference ranks. The junior from Caracas, Venezuela, is 19-9 overall in singles play this season and 14-5 in dual matches, including a 13-5 record at the No. 1 position. Nationally ranked No. 53, she posted a 7-3 conference mark and owns two wins over nationally ranked opponents this season. With 60 career singles victories, De Bernardo becomes one of the most accomplished players in program history, adding to a résumé that includes multiple weekly conference honors this spring.
 
Zoric also earned All-LSC recognition in singles, landing on the Second Team in her standout sophomore campaign. Ranked No. 43 nationally, the Zubrovnik, Croatia native leads LCU with 21 singles victories, going 15-4 in dual play and 14-4 at the No. 2 line. She matched De Bernardo with a 7-3 conference record and has compiled a 40-14 career singles mark, continuing to establish herself as one of the league's most consistent performers.
 
Freshman Kristel Jativa was recognized as an Honorable Mention selection in singles in her impressive debut season. Jativa co-leads the team with 21 singles wins and has been a key contributor in the middle of the lineup, posting a 15-2 dual record, including a 12-2 mark at the No. 4 position, and an 8-2 showing in Lone Star Conference play. She has also contributed 19 doubles victories, including a 17-10 record alongside Ana Sofía Valero Treviño.
 
Senior Oshini Herath represented LCU on the LSC Sportsmanship Team for the second consecutive season, highlighting her leadership and impact on a program that has experienced rapid growth since its relaunch. A member of the program's inaugural modern-era squad in 2022-23, Herath heads into her final postseason push with 49 career singles victories while serving as a veteran presence in both singles and doubles competition.
 
In the classroom, Zoric was named to the LSC All-Academic Team, recognizing her combined excellence in athletics and academics. A biochemistry major, she met the league's criteria of maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average while playing a significant role in LCU's success on the court.
 
As a team, LCU's presence across the postseason awards underscores its depth and emergence as a conference contender. The Lady Chaparrals (15-5 overall) completed the regular season with an 8-2 mark in Lone Star Conference play and will enter the postseason ranked among the league's top teams.
 
The Lady Chaparrals now turn their focus to the Lone Star Conference Championships, which are underway at the Arlington Tennis Center. LCU, the tournament's No. 3 seed, opened quarterfinal play against No. 6 seed Cameron at 9 a.m., but have been battling rain delays. The winner advances to Friday's semifinal round to face Midwestern State, with a berth in the championship match on the line.
