Heartbreaker in Arlington: Lady Chaps Fall 4-3 in Quarterfinal Thriller

Love-All Turns Tough: Lady Chaps Dropped in Late-Break Battle

ARLINGTON, Texas (April 30, 2026) – No. 42 Lubbock Christian University dropped a tightly contested 4-3 decision to Cameron in the Lone Star Conference Championship quarterfinals at the Arlington Tennis Center, as the Aggies claimed the final four singles points after the Lady Chaps secured the doubles point to open the neutral-site match.

Lubbock Christian (15-6) struck first in doubles despite Cameron taking the opening result at No. 2, where Adel Ismagulova and Isabella Quintero defeated Oshini Herath and Alexandra Luders 6-2. The Lady Chaps answered quickly at the top spot, as the No. 2-ranked tandem of Andrea De Bernardo and AnaMaria Zoric extended their winning streak to 10 matches with a 6-4 victory over No. 28 Jenna Goessel and Nil Kalkaven to even doubles play. The deciding point came at No. 3, where Kristel Jativa and Ana Sofía Valero Treviño completed a 6-3 win over Alexa Garcia and Daniela Maldonado, giving LCU a 1-0 lead heading into singles.

Cameron (10-8) responded in singles with momentum, beginning with a straight-sets win at No. 6, where Daniela Maldonado defeated Aitanna Moreno Villa 6-1, 6-1 to level the team score at 1-1. LCU regained the lead shortly after, as Kristel Jativa continued her strong form with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Isabella Quintero at No. 4, finishing second in the order and putting the Lady Chaps back in front, 2-1. The Aggies answered again at No. 3, where Alexa Garcia topped Oshini Herath 6-1, 6-3 to tie the match at 2-2, and then took their first lead of the day at No. 5, as Nil Kalkaven defeated Valero Treviño 6-4, 6-2 to make it 3-2 Cameron.

With the match hanging in the balance, the final two courts went the distance. At No. 2, No. 43 AnaMaria Zoric rallied for a three-set victory over Adel Ismagulova, 6-1, 6-7 (7-4), 6-3, completing her match fifth in the order to even the team score at 3-3. Moments later, the deciding point came at No. 1, where No. 66 Jenna Goessel overcame No. 53 Andrea De Bernardo in a three-set battle, 1-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, clinching the match for Cameron.

Lubbock Christian's doubles teams of De Bernardo and Zoric, along with Jativa and Valero Treviño, were instrumental in securing the early advantage, while Jativa and Zoric delivered the Lady Chaps' two singles points. Jativa improved to 22-7 overall in singles with her sixth consecutive victory, while Zoric matched the team lead with her 22nd win of the season and extended her win streak to five matches. De Bernardo and Zoric also continued their dominant season in doubles, improving to 19-2 overall (8-0 against nationally ranked foes).

The loss snapped LCU's five-match winning streak and dropped the program to 1-4 all-time at the LSC Championships, including 0-2 against Cameron in the event. The match, originally scheduled for 9 a.m., was interrupted by rain showers. Matches resumed around 5:30 p.m. Lubbock Christian now awaits its postseason fate, with hopes of earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Division II South Central Regional, which will be announced Monday evening.
