RICHARDSON, Texas (April 6, 2026) - Lubbock Christian University senior pitcher
Aaron Rubio was named the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
This is the second time this season that Rubio has claimed the league's weekly pitcher award.
Rubio tossed a complete game shutout against West Texas A&M, who had entered the weekend batting .336, which was second in the conference. The Las Vegas native limited the Buffs to a .138 batting average against and walked only one while striking out four batters. Only one WT hitter made it as far as third base during the game.
The shutout performance lowered Rubio's season ERA to 3.04, which is the second-best mark among qualified pitchers in the LSC. He has a 6-1 record with three complete games and has pitched 53.1 innings this year. His 43 strikeouts lead the team, and opponents are batting just .257 against him.
Lubbock Christian is coming off back-to-back series wins against St. Edward's and West Texas A&M, improving to 21-17 on the year. They will take the diamond next against Eastern New Mexico this weekend at Hays Field. First pitch for game one is set for 6 p.m. on Friday night.
