LUBBOCK, Texas (April 8. 2026) - Lubbock Christian University senior
Aaron Rubio was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association South Central Region Pitcher of the Week, the association announced on Wednesday.
The award comes on the heels of Rubio's recognition as the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week. It is the second time this season he has claimed both awards.
Rubio tossed a complete-game, four-hit shutout on the road against West Texas A&M. He struck out four batters and issued only one walk over the seven innings. He only needed 85 pitches and limited the Buffs, who entered hitting .336, to just one extra-base hit. Only one WT baserunner reached third base.
The shutout performance lowered Rubio's season ERA to 3.04, which is the second-best mark among qualified pitchers in the LSC. He has a 6-1 record with three complete games and has pitched 53.1 innings this year. His 43 strikeouts lead the team, and opponents are batting just .257 against him.
Lubbock Christian is coming off back-to-back series wins against St. Edward's and West Texas A&M, improving to 21-17 on the year. They will take the diamond next against Eastern New Mexico this weekend at Hays Field. First pitch for game one is set for 6 p.m. on Friday night.
