Carli Scores Late, Chaps Drop Opener

LCU Drops 2-1 Contest to FLC

LUBBOCK, Texas (August 27, 2026) — Lubbock Christian University (0-1-0) fell to Fort Lewis College (1-0-0) in a close 2–1 loss to open the season on Thursday night at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex. The Chaparrals' lone goal came in the second half, but the Skyhawks maintained their lead to secure the win.

The first period began with the Chaparrals maintaining defensive composure, countering the Skyhawks' early scoring chances, and LCU earned the first corner kick of the game at the 8:06 mark.

The visitors got on the board first on a goal from Simão Agostinho in the 29th minute, and the Chaps responded with increased offensive efforts. Oliver Robinson and Jack Brassey tallied key shot attempts, with Brassey's strike being saved by the Skyhawks' goalkeeper, Lucas Martin. The Chaps continued to push forward, but the period closed with the Skyhawks leading 1–0.

The second period began with the Chaparrals pushing to shift the momentum. Junior Lopez took an early shot in the 48th minute, but it did not find the net. Despite several offensive attempts, Fort Lewis capitalized first, with Agostinho taking advantage of an LCU miscue and notching his second goal of the game in the 73rd minute to extend their lead to 2–0.

The Chaps still didn't quit and kept the game interesting in the 85th minute when Lucas Carli found the back of the net, assisted by Alex Lachevre, narrowing the gap to 2–1. The home team continued to press forward, creating multiple scoring opportunities in the final five minutes, but the final whistle sounded with the Skyhawks maintaining their advantage.

Carli's impact was significant, as he has missed the last two seasons due to injury. And Lachevre's assist gave him his first point in a Chaparral uniform. In goal, Milo Paci faced nine shots and made two saves.
