LUBBOCK, Texas (August 28, 2026) – Lubbock Christian University did not start the 2026 campaign they wanted, falling behind early and falling short in their comeback bid against Fort Lewis on Thursday, but they get a chance to bounce back quickly as they host Adams State at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex.
 
CHAPARRAL NEWS & NOTES

• Saturday is Senior Day for LCU, which will recognized two players prior to the start of the game against the Grizzlies. Brayden Johnson and Caio Wasch will be the two senior honorees. Johnson, a goalkeeper, has been a member of the Chaparral team for four seasons and will be graduating with a degree Biology. Wasch played two seasons at Murray State College before transferring to LCU and will graduate with a degree in Animal Science
• Lucas Carli scored the lone goal for the Chaps in their season-opener after missing the last two seasons due to injury. He now has four goals and 11 points in his collegiate career
• Lubbock Christian has played eight games against Adams State all time and won all eight of them. Last time the Grizzlies were in Lubbock, the Chaps won 2-0, despite playing a man down for the final 26 minutes. Saimon Gjeci and Geoffroy Letienne scored the goals
• The Chaps went 4-4-1 at their home field last year and will play nine more matches (including Saturday's) at the friendly confines this year. The LCU Soccer & Track Complex was completed in August of 2020 and features an AstroTurf playing surface, a Musco lighting system to allow for night games and stadium seating for 500 fans. LCU's men have an all-time record of 61-42-21 in home games
• Carlos Kramer Silva was the only Chaparral field player to play the full 90 minutes of the opening match. Last season, the Brazil native played the full 90 three times

SCOUTING THE GRIZZLIES

• Adams State played West Texas A&M in Canyon on Thursday night, losing 4-0 in the season-opener for both teams
• The Grizzlies have not won a game against an NCAA D-II opponents since September 27, 2024, when they took down South Dakota Mines 6-1. In 2025, their only win was against an NAIA opponent
• Head coach Peter Freeman is in his second season leading the ASU program. He previously coached for nine seasons at Trinidad State
• ASU tallied six total shots against the Buffs on Thursday, from six different player. The only attempt on goal came from Austin Dengel, a senior defender
• Bryan Amezcua played all 90 minutes in goal for the Grizzlies, stopping 11 shots but also allowing four goals
