JUNIOR COLLEGE
Spent a pair of seasons at Marshalltown, Iowa's Marshalltown College, where he made eight appearances over two seasons. Made his first start in 2015 as one of two appearances and then made six appearances during the 2016 season. The lefty averaged 11.1 strikeouts per nine innings in 2016 and a 9.8 strikeouts per nine inning rating for his junior college career.

Played at Hoover High School in Des Moines, Iowa. Along with baseball, he was also a member of the school's football, basketball, and track and field teams. Was a First Team CIML Metro selection, Second Team All-State baseball selection and an honorable mention All-State football selection
