Alek Child begins his second year with LCU Athletics after joining the department prior to the 2023-24 athletic seasons. In his first year as Assistant Sports Information Director, Child was responsible for publicity efforts for ten sports - men's/women's soccer, men's/women's cross country, men's basketball, men's/women's track & field, baseball, and men's/women's golf. In addition, Child facilitated all video production efforts for the department including oversight of the Rip Griffin Center production room during all home volleyball and basketball games. Child was responsible for the creation, management, and content distribution of multiple team social media accounts, many of which saw a significant increase in followers during the 2023-24 athletic season.
A native of San Antonio, Texas, Child returned to Texas after serving with the Sports Information Department at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill. in the spring of 2023. Child was the SID contact overseeing SIU’s men’s and women’s golf, track & field / cross country and swimming & diving NCAA Division I programs. Along with the team/program assignments, Child also served as the videoboard operator for basketball events inside Banterra Center.

Prior to his time at SIU, Child was at East Texas Baptist (Marshall, Texas), where he was a student-athlete with the Tigers football program. Recruited out of Medina Valley High School (Castroville, Texas), Child played quarterback and punter for the Tigers and was recognized with a pair of All-Conference (American Southwest Conference) honors and was a CSC Academic All-District selection. On Nov. 6, 2021, Child set the program single-game record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with three against Sul Ross State. The Sports Management major assisted the ETBU Sports Information Department while attending ETBU and returned to assist ETBU host the 2023 NCAA Division III baseball and softball regional tournaments and the 2023 NCAA Division III Softball National Championship.
