Draper comes to the Chaps after working the previous two seasons will fellow Lone Star Conference member Eastern New Mexico. While working as a graduate assistant there, he assisted in scouting and recruiting while also working toward his master's in physical education and sports administration. He had previously earned his bachelor's degree in general studies from Texas State University in 2018.

Since his time at Texas State, Draper has been working on building his coaching resume. Prior to working in the graduate assistant role at Eastern New Mexico, he worked as a student assistant for the men's basketball team at Texas Lutheran University. While with the Bulldogs, he helped with strength and conditioning and player development while also building scouting reports as TLU captured its third straight SCAC title in 2018. Draper also spent time as the boy's varsity coach at San Marcos Academy in 2017, leading the team to a 20-win season one year after they won only six games.

Draper also has gained experience working various collegiate basketball camps during his summers, including ones at Texas Tech, Texas State, Denver University, and Texas A&M. In 2014, he also coached the New Braunfels High School summer league team.
