2014 (Salem International)
Was at Salem International University, which is a NCAA Division II program in Salem, W.Va. He participated in 19 games and tallied eight goals for 16 points. His goals were important, as five of them were game winning goals. Szabo ranked tied for fifth in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) in goals and his game winning goals led the conference. Left SIU combining for 16 goals in 36 games over two seasons. Szabo is a two-time All-G-MAC and All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) selection. Off the pitch, he claimed Academic All-Conference and SIU Deans List honors.

2013 (Salem International)
The center back led SIU as a freshman (2013) with 16 points off eight goals in 17 games. His eight goals ranked sixth in the conference and he also ranked third in the conference in shots (55). 

High School
He prepped in Ringwood, Australia at Yarra Valley Grammar and competed for Associate Grammar Schools of Victoria. Played club in the Ringwood City FC program, playing for his father John.
