2018-19
Placed 19th in the 800m at the Lone Star Conference Championships during indoor season with a time of 2:15.81. Competed in the 800m and 1500m during outdoor season, runnin season-best times in both events at the Fearless Champion Open.Â
2017-18
During indoor season, Cortez competed in the 800m and the mile run. His collegiate best in the mile run came at the Texas Tech Matador Qualifier, when he placed 22nd with a time of 5:01.97. In outdoor season, he earned a pair of top 10 finishes, placing as high as seventh in the 800m at the WT Classic and Multis and running on a 4X400 team that placed eighth at the NMJC Ross Black Open.Â
2016-17
Competed in the 800m, the 1500m and the 4X400 relay during the 2017 track season. Posted collegiate best times in the 800m and 1500m at the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Ran the 800m with a time of 2:05.58 to finished 23rd and finished the 1500m in 21st with a time of 4:37.82.
