Andrew Sorrells

Andrew Sorrells was named the Lubbock Christian University Director of Athletics in December 2023. As the fourth full-time Director of Athletics in program history, he leads 16 NCAA Division II athletic programs competing in the Lone Star Conference and oversees a department committed to competitive excellence, Christian leadership, and the holistic development of student-athletes.

Since his arrival, he has transformed the fundraising landscape of LCU Athletics through the launch and rapid growth of the Chap Club. This initiative established a unified and sustainable giving model that significantly increased donor engagement and annual support for the department. He has also helped lead the expansion and improvement of LCU’s athletic infrastructure through revenue generation and facility upgrades.

Sorrells played a key leadership role in completing the long-envisioned Griffin Training Center. The $7 million facility features two practice gyms, a new weight room, expanded athletic training space, coaches’ offices, team meeting rooms, and a premium hospitality space — significantly enhancing the daily experience for LCU student-athletes.

Sorrells also led the department through a $3.7 million baseball facility renovation, including new turf, dugouts, netting, and grandstands, modernizing both the player and fan experience and positioning the program for continued growth ahead of its scheduled January 2027 completion date.

Under his leadership, LCU Athletics has excelled both competitively and academically. Since 2024, the department has led the Lone Star Conference each semester in the number of student-athletes earning a perfect 4.0 GPA, establishing a consistent benchmark for academic excellence.

Since 2024, LCU Athletics has captured multiple conference championships and achieved historic individual and program milestones across several sports, including baseball advancing to and hosting a Super Regional, women’s basketball reaching the Elite Eight, and men’s tennis advancing to the Final Four for the first time in program history.

Andrew brings a modern, external-facing approach to marketing the department, focusing on innovative strategies to enhance visibility and community engagement. Before joining LCU, he served as Associate Director of Major Gifts for Texas Tech Athletics, where he achieved significant fundraising success while also taking on a leadership role as General Manager of the Air Raiders in ESPN’s The Basketball Tournament (TBT). In this capacity, he was pivotal in marketing the team, negotiating contracts, recruiting players and coaches, and securing sponsorships. In addition to his work in athletics, he was involved with the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance (LEDA), focusing on business recruitment and innovation.

Andrew holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas Tech University and a Master of Business Administration from The University of Texas at Dallas. He was an NCAA Division I student-athlete for the Texas Tech men’s basketball team and served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Andrew and his wife, Kelsee, live in Wolfforth, Texas, with their daughter, Charlotte, and are active members of Redeemer Church.
